    Do you name your basses?

I have a Blue L-2500 and a Green L-2000, named Blue Magoo and Greeny. I also have a sunburst LB-100 yet unnamed.

Neck/headstock buzz on certain G string notes

Neck/headstock buzz on certain G string notes

Tried the capo thing and the buzz is still there. My initial thought was loose saddles too, but I've tried everything there, and it really sounds like its coming from the neck. I was really hoping it's not a truss rod issue, since It's a brand new custom shop bass I've only had for 2 weeks, but...

Neck/headstock buzz on certain G string notes

This is a fairly new LB-100 that has started buzzing on certain notes on the G string. It’s really prominent on the 8th-10th frets. But also the 14th fret A makes it happen. Can anyone identify the source? It sounds like it’s coming from the neck/headstock but i’ve checked every screw and can’t...

I don't know if that's the issue. The problem only happens when it IS airtight.

    Tweeter being rattled by woofer?

Not sure what's going on exactly here, but I've got a Traynor SB112 and when I play low notes at any kind of substantial volume, you can hear a little flapping from the tweeter. I leave the tweeter turned off on this thing, so it's nothing that's actually being pushed through the tweeter. Today...

    Best bass for Tapewounds

I have a set of LaBella Deep Talkin' black nylon tape wounds in hand, and I've never felt or played on tape wounds in my whole life. So, I picked up a set to check them out. What kinds of basses do people usually put these on? Obviously P's and J's. Any body care to comment on using them on...

    Modulus Mob

I received the Mike Gordon bass today. To be honest, I'm looking into returning it. It came with Ken Smith Slickrounds on it, and terribly high action. I tried a set of brand new DR high beams I had laying around and even with those on, the neck has .045" of relief in it. Most of my basses are...

This is correct, the 5th knob is piezo blend. Very nice tones available here.

    Modulus Mob

It's not a 2001, serial number indicates '98. The strange thing is that I received a certificate of authenticity with a completely different serial number on it. I wonder if this is in fact the bass he intended to sell, or if some kind of mistake happened. I've got a message in on Reverb to...

    Modulus Mob

On that note, it just occurred to me that maybe the only other modulus bass I have ever played in my life was one of Oteil's. It was a Q6 that he had given to a killer player from North Carolina named Taylor Lee, who lived down the hall from me freshman year. Maybe if I keep at it, I can get my...

    Modulus Mob

I also don't think it's actually a 2001. I'm waiting to get that serial number and get to the bottom of that. Mike and Phil are definitely big influences, so I was pretty thrilled about this opportunity.

    Modulus Mob

I've always played G&L, MM or Fender. Never really branched out beyond the Leo Fender designs, the L-2000 being my favorite. My main axe for the last decade has been an L-2500. I never really had much interest in anything on the high-end side of things, but I figured if I was ever going to get...

Looking forward to joining this club in a few days. I just bought a TBX Q5 with EMGs and piezo. It'll be my first Modulus, so naturally I am thrilled.

How to lay back and groove/swing

I play in a big band which is made up almost entirely of people considerably more than twice my age. The drummer and I are the youngest in the group, and while we both think we are playing well and swinging, the band leader is always asking us to lay back more. We aren't rushing or anything, and...

Double Bass Recommendations of Free Jazz

I'm involved in a new project that is doing some free jazz pieces and I'm relatively unfamiliar with the style. I'm familiar with Ornette's Free Jazz, and I've really been listening to The Shape of Jazz to Come a lot lately. Does anyone have some recommendations of free jazz recordings to check...

    New bass - G&L Greenburst

Link Removed This is the only picture I have of it so far, next to my L-2500. It's got an ebony board, stainless steel frets and the K wiring. Plays great and looks even better!

    5-string bass

I highly recommend the G&L tribute L2500. They are crafted extremely well for imports IMO, and the G&L MFD pickups give you so may tonal options. I play the US version which is active/passive, and I think the tribute is the same way. I only ever run it passive, and it has a perfect signal that...

New Basses from G&L M series

I guess If I absolutely HAD to change something about the L series, it'd be a pan knob instead of a selector switch. Other than that, I'm seeing another departure from what Leo left us. I'm a G&L man, but I'm not even tempted by these M-series. I'll stick with my L2k and my L2.5k which I already...

Does G&L offer K-wiring as an option?

Turns out they do offer it. Just put in the order for a shiny new L2000 with #8 neck, ebony fretboard, stainless steel medium jumbo frets, K-wiring, and my favorite part, the greenburst finish with wood binding and matching headstock. Wait time: approx 12 weeks. My birthday: approx 12 weeks...

Does G&L offer K-wiring as an option?

Its looking like a #8 neck (preferably ebony but I keep reading that it's been discontinued. anyone know?), greenburst finish w/ natural binding and matching headstock. I'd like to see the K-wiring in there for sure if it's an option.

Does G&L offer K-wiring as an option?

I'm ordering a new L2000 to my specs, and I thought I remembered reading that G&L offered the K-wiring as an option. It' not listed on their site, does anyone know if they do in fact offer this?

    Flats not for me.

I'm a recent convert to flats. I roll with a P w/ flats, a J w/ flats, and an L2.5k with rounds. I was taught that people hear you're sound before they hear your playing, and the thump of flats helps me get the bass sounds many people grew up on, and still like to hear.
