    DR Legend Flats question

Just put a set 45-105 on my p bass(top loading). I've been playing round wounds for quite a bit and been settled on D'Addario nickel rounds that are a few years old. The DR is my first set of flats and so far I'm loving how it feels and how it sounds after one day of playing. It's tuned...

    P J P/J Oh my!

Update. I rewired my PJ to a VBT configuration, it's perfect for my use, sounds perfectly fine to my ears. I'm very happy with it. Work just as good as my J bass in VBT. If you like master volume knob, have a PJ bass and considering this VBT mod, just do it.

calling all wiring gurus, 5 way switch help needed.

I'm rewiring my passive PJ bass with the master volume - 5 way switch - master tone configuration. After much reading and asking around here is what I come up with. Please excuse the poor drawing(my first time doing it and I'm definitely no graphic person), please let me know what you think...

    rosewood neck getting moldy...

+1 The UV of the sun is the best way to kill mold, some mold will stain the wood and might not come off. Give it a good wipe down with naptha followed by your favorite fretboard conditioner. Lemon oils works great and won't cause you mold. on a side note, long term exposure to direct...

    Am Jazz Bass Pan Pot

Double check with other more experienced guys, the Am. Dlx. has active electronics and I'm not 100% sure if 250k blend pot is the right one for active basses. Mine is passive it's worked perfectly. I don't thing a blend pot can give you any precise indication on a 75/25 blend, but I normally...

    Am Jazz Bass Pan Pot

I have a 2006 Am. Std. Jazz bass(passive) with the Blend pot from Allparts Got mine in a local music shop since it's really not a rare hard to find part. It's packaged with Allparts logo but the maker of the pot is Bourns(printed on the product label). I following walterw's advice and kept...

Blend knob vs. 3 way switch

Is the diagram you posted for the P-Series-Parallel-J wiring? I've seen another diagram courtesy of TB's line6man for the P-Series-Parallel-J so I"m a bit confused at the moment. I've decided to do this rotary switch mod, but not sure what and where to buy the switch, and the pole# thanks...

Blend knob vs. 3 way switch

Thank you, I've done the VVT to VBT mod with the Bourn 250K Blend pot that worked really well for me, and yes I unloaded the blend pot as recommended by TB member Walterw. I totally dig the "true bypass" quality of a 3-way switch for that straight P or J or PJ tone, and I don't think I'll...

Blend knob vs. 3 way switch

Thanks John for your reply. I too primarily play with one master volume control for ages on my straight Jazz bass that has the V-B-T controls, and I absolutely love the tones of this bass neck, bridge, or combined, a single master volume is very important for me. I'm at this debate because...

Blend knob vs. 3 way switch

Besides the blending capabilities of the blend pot, what are the theoretical/actual electronic pro and cons of it compare to a 3 way switch. I always used the blend pot like a 3 way switch anyway. I"m rewiring a passive P/J, and debating whether I should go with V-B-T or V-3way switch-T.

    P J P/J Oh my!

I've seen them going for around $800 here and there but they are not moving, saw a natural finish buy it now for like around $900 but no bid(looks like a relisting too). I bought mine two weeks ago for $620(incl. shipping) off of ebay. Mine was "as is" looking on the computerbut once I...

    P J P/J Oh my!

How did you like your last P/J with the blend knob? I've always liked my Jazz Bass with the V-B-T mod, and would really like to do the same to my newly acquired P/J.

    P J P/J Oh my!

Anybody did the VBT mod on a passive P/J bass and hated it? How is it compare to one with a 3-way selector instead of the blend pot?

    P J P/J Oh my!

I'm a straight J-Bass player with the V-B-T configuration, and my output level differences when blending between the neck and bridge is very noticeable. At the neck position it's full and bassy and I cover the bottom end of the band mix with ease, at the bridge position it's light and...

    J bass electronic upgrade(not a pup question)

Thanks guys, I've looked up the John East retro and it does look pretty cool, however I'm trying to keep it passive. Also, few corrections after doing a little more digging on my bass, it's a 2006 Am. Std. originally came with the S-1 switch which I had since removed when I rewired it for the...

    J bass electronic upgrade(not a pup question)

I've got a 2008 Am. Std. Jazz bass that needs a bit of electronic attention. I've replaced the tone cap with a good ol' Russian made paper in oil type(and it sure made a HUGE difference in my tone!), rewired the controls to a volume-blend-tone configuration, shielded the pickguard although I...

    Seeking help for my J-Bass

any experience with the Fralin single coil for J-basses? I obviously need a neck pick now but not sure if I should spend 20 bucks for a Fender MIM pickup or 50-60 bucks for something cheap made in USA or 90+ bucks for one of those boutique handmade pups named after the guy who wind it up?

    Seeking help for my J-Bass

today I bypassed everything and wired the pickup directly to a jack, and now I'm 100% sure that the neck pickup is busted. I had a guitar tech friend/mentor work with me on it and we tried to reflow the leads with no positive result. the seller on eBay(an individual not an store) who I...

    Seeking help for my J-Bass

Hello, my first post here. I recently got a used Jazz Bass off of ebay and I have some question regarding it's electronics. It's a stock 2006 Am. Std. fitted with the S-1 Switch. Initially when I engage the S-1 switch(series) I can notice a significant drop in volume compare to when the S-1...
