i've been doing the same with The Hunter and Blood Mountain. i think it is fair to say that the new one compliments much of their older material, the one exception maybe being Remission. it is such a great distillation of their strengths and their development as composers to this point.

i've got one P and one J in an old Fender Prophecy II. I LOVE the way they sound together, and also how they sound individually(modified it to have a 3 way toggle with volume/volume/tone). I can't speak to a traditional J or P, but i am definitely a fan of them.

i prefer slimmer necks because i have tiny hands. i personally feel like i can play cleaner when playing faster phrases if i'm not struggling to hit the next note. i absolutely believe fractions of an inch can help with this.

you'll get quite a few people recommending the Iron Ether Oxide. i'll break the ice on that one. it can do synthy fuzz or a more classic octave-fuzz sound and most things in between.
