The OFFICIAL "Gretsch Bass Owners Club"

It's worth mentioning that the RRMBA17 is *NOT* a perfect fit for the G5123B. You need to fold a towel or something to put underneath the body at the upper bout, or the neck will be supporting the majority of the weight of the bass. There is about 3/4" clearance between the upper bouts of the...

They're the same size. The broadkaster has binding in the f-holes, and has a pickguard. other than those two things, I really can't see a difference in bodies

Nothing surprising about it, at all. I've yet to pick up a Jay Turser instrument that didn't feel and play like something worth 4 times as much. My son has a JT SG, and a good friend of mine has one of those JTB401's :bassist:

Ohio Bassists Club- Now a Megathread.

Yeah, right on. I'm just saying, I've seen Phil's work first-hand and it's top-notch. I've not seen Dave's work (or the other guy's), but I have seen a list of endorsements for Phil's work that would roll out the door and down the block containing a range of names from guy's you've never heard...

That VM fretless is pretty. You should follow the link in my sig to see what I've done with my VM fretless. I'm quite proud of it :bassist:

Ohio Bassists Club- Now a Megathread.

Rack this up as another endorsement for the 5Th Avenue Fret Shop here in Columbus. Phil is easily the most talented luthier in Ohio, and quite possibly the entire midwest. Considering you just need a fret dressing, he will be pretty inexpensive... HOWEVER, dressing frets is *not* a difficult...

While you think those are three of the prettiest basses here, they're not my cup of tea at all. With the exception of the jazz on the right the bodies are too narrow. I don't like the looks of the wood combinations on any of them (well, the LG3005 has some pretty good looks going on). They're...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 2

Wrapping with dental floss works great, and it comes in so many colors! I haven't seen any string breaking issues either way, but *shrug*.. How often do bass strings break? heh. Short scale strings are just such a pain in the ass to appropriate for a decent price that I just don't bother :)

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 2

So, if you put standard-scale strings on it and cut them to length, are they going to explode or something? I'm looking at pics of both the MusicMaster AND the Mikro, and neither of them have the awkward tuning pegs that makes it difficult/impossible to string standard-scale strings through...

+1 I could see myself making one fundamental mod to my Geddy I would really like to rewire it stereo with a toggle for mono/stereo When Geddy played Rics, he had a pretty badass sound from his stereo setup

    New Gretsch Electromatic Hollowbody bass?

Hell, I won't even add a pickguard because I don't want to drill the 3 holes necessary. Even if Gretsch puts these into full production, this first run will still be worth more than the rest down the line. Not that I ever plan on selling it :) I love this thing. I've actually been playing...

    Squier vintage modified club

How long? They had our account for almost 4 months. We missed 2 mortgage payments (as well as two full rounds of utilities), and two of my wife's paychecks got deposited into a frozen account before she could cancel the direct deposit (which is a pain in the ass in and of itself)...

Paypal stole over four hundred dollars from me, and I absolutely refuse to use them for *anything*. I'll send you a PM if I find a dealer here locally, though, and we can work something out. Paypal passes themselves off as an 'internet bank', but they aren't governed by any of the rules and...

    New Gretsch Electromatic Hollowbody bass?

IMO, the bit on GretschPages about masking off your bridge is all you need to do to ensure intonation (it's what I do (actually, I just make an L shape)) when changing strings. To each their own, but I'm gonna have to agree with Pilgrim that I think it defeats the purpose of having a floating...

    New Gretsch Electromatic Hollowbody bass?

Yeah, I've gone over this in my head a few times now since reading that post, and I can only come to one conclusion: :rollno: This Philtone place devalued your bass to save themselves 1-2 minutes per visit in the future. :rollno: Knowing they will see your bass again for string changes and...

    New Gretsch Electromatic Hollowbody bass?

Why, in the name of the gods, would you screw the bridge into the body? *shaking head very slowly and sadly* To ME, drilling holes in what is still a limited edition guitar makes no sense, at all, and drilling holes in a Gretsch makes even less. Not to mention you have to be losing something in...
