    Quad Cortex - Neural DSP

Little bit of a necro-bump but I'm actually curious if that is being modeled using the schematic I provided too. Had a few people ask me if this was my doing and I have no idea, not that I care too much, this is amazing.

Well, got some sound clips for everyone. Yes, it is quite gated. I didn't actually play Defector (the song) but it matches up well otherwise. Pro + Tube switch on, medium-high drive, medium-high tone, blend Pro switches on, medium drive, medium tone, blend Pro + Tube switches off, high...

Thank you! For the current pedals, they will remain side mounted jacks, basically due to the physical constraints of the components I use, board mounted components, plus the enclosure itself all being the main restrictions at this time. This isn't going to be big enough design wise to warrant...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Bump. I know it's relative to the Humster more than the Animated, but a few people have asked about it so I'll be working on that because the demand is there, which is odd considering the lack of sound clips. Just think a gated, square-ish overdrive. Blends well but sits nicely on its own too...

Alrighty, finally back on sale! Know there has been a few people asking for them so thought I'd make a big announcement, or forum post.

Bit of a bump, not only because I will be having some more ready in about 2 weeks time (even if one board today had a board manufacture fault, bleh), but rather a customer of mine actually went out and got the Animato Forte and has had some interesting results with it. He sent me the manual that...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Interesting... The clean blend should virtually be at unity when on dry and there is plenty of volume on tap with the distortion end. This doesn't sound right, however I can understand that you might prefer to have more available or blend each individually. I will consider it for later revisions.

Talking traditionally here (like 30-40 years ago, pre-internet), it was usually a factor of parts you could get your hand on and cost. It was a lot harder to obtain the standard sizes we have today so you would make do. Something like the the original big muff not only needed room for a...

    Someone cracked the Animato

It in itself probably wouldn't ever stop a sale, that's a very real point and it isn't a make or break deal for really anyone because I am doubtful people will actually make a conscious decision to buy/not buy based on that alone but in my case, the decision to put it there was more based on...

    Someone cracked the Animato

That's for exactly this reason. Having the extra depth allows you to mount the jacks up top and usually on another board, which in turn will even allow room for a power jack mounted to that board, saving assembly time and buying a ton of room, which benefits builders a lot. You ever wondered...

    Someone cracked the Animato

I've opted not for top mount audio jacks because it drastically changes the construction and layout, especially regarding the controls, although I'm not opposed to top jacks, they do make sense. I did however keep the power jack up there. Does make construction a little bit longer (like, we're...

The nano one won't be going on sale (I did as a mini project) but the current Animated is. Same thing!

    Someone cracked the Animato

So I went a bit silly and did end up making the nano one. I did make the power part of the PCB wrong so it'll need external wiring with a small power jack but it works 100% Even did a Youtube cover with it today on the breadboard. Once I've boxed it up, it's probably going to be my touring...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Actually do have an update on it, thanks for reminding me! I sent files off today to have the (hopefully final) prototype done. I had to change the blend in it because the one used in the Animated is fine, in the Voskhod, it causes some feedback. My thought process was to go overkill with the...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Bumping to say I've got a few more for sale since I had some people message me here. I had a bit more of a breadboard tinker and I had remembered just how much fun it was playing with the filtering on the first stage. Also, because I feel adventurous, this is happening in a few weeks.

    Crowella Animated question

Here's my public response, hopefully this helps somewhat. For those with the gate option (latest batch), I do recommend off. It can be set to gate the sound completely but it will result in a level drop and a change of the tone slightly. When blended in with clean, it should obtain a...

Always thought John did a fantastic job including the Absolution artwork on his. I went a week without one at band practice (loaned to another band) and I missed it instantly. The combo with a Big Muff is really something special. Finally got some more parts on the way to finish the existing...

    Someone cracked the Animato

One of the fun things is mixing them all up with different ones and stacking on, using only one, etc. For those who want to dip into DIY and make something really simple, I would suggest the Bazz Fuss. That's a really good one to understand how the diodes work because they basically do all the...

I'd say that would be right on the money, given this is a Japanese pedal, plus it looks like the shoe fits.

    Someone cracked the Animato

Thank you Frank for some amazing suggestions, definitely going to give them all a tinker with to make something more salvageable and ultimately useful. Meanwhile, got some SMD parts now for future builds. I'm going to have to get used to their very small size.

Great points boomertech, might go searching for some and try test this out. If it were a LM308, wouldn't the slew rate be an indicator? Also I have a feeling after talking with someone else it could be a PNP transistor. Needs a breadboard. Anyway, should just start claiming it's all mojo, that...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Bump, I feel kind of unsure where to put it but I don't think it's worth a new thread but a few people were curious so I reverse engineered the mt'Lab FAT Humster. I don't really know much more about it other than it got some brief use by Chris Wolstenholme/Muse during the song Defector on the...

    Someone cracked the Animato

Just an update since it's been a while. I've run out of a few parts to make more so I've got a few more parts on the way (moving hasn't helped). It seems in the past week or two that I've been getting *a lot* of people asking. I just simply haven't got much time at the moment to do much more...

    Someone cracked the Animato

I'll be digging into making some more in the middle of next week. Got a huge influx of emails. Hopefully if all goes well, I should have more time (shop close to being sold, whew) Also... got a copy of the pedal that Chris Wolstenholme uses in the live version of Defector, should have some guts...

I will open it back up for a while. I was going to wait before selling more to give everyone that emailed me a chance but there is a lot remaining still. Email me at [email protected] . I'm sending the first lot out tomorrow, then as I slowly finish them off. Could do a few a day. Haven't...

I feel like it's been such a long time coming, mainly waiting on NTE to make the transistors but 15/50 are running perfectly to be boxed (or 15/48 or 17/50, it's complicated) Invalid Link Removed Meanwhile, been working on something else. The Mt'lab FAT Humster, as being used in Defector is...

Thanks everyone, took a few goes to get something to fit this nicely. At least gold plating makes my life so much easier. :) Link Removed Got a big muff clone working too, I can see why this combination is used by Chris. Need more soundclips while I build. This is one of those few times I...

Sadly no bass boost control, the clean blend brings in enough at the moment. If I get to working on the bitmap again, it'll go in, it worked nicely.

    Someone cracked the Animato

Builds have started. :) Think it is about a month ETA, depends how long it takes a few suppliers to bring in those NTE's. Got the gate control inside on the top right of the board inside. It does kind of desaturate the sound if you turn it up but with a bit of tweaking there is a happy medium...

I think I've had a conversion to the church of germaniums. They work so damn well. It may have just been the slightest difference it needs. Got a demo up of the new pedal. Literally Pedulla RB5, into the animated, direct into an interface with a Gk 800 RB sim. Tone and Drive are around 1...

Chris Wolstenholme: The Sticky Ver. 1

Talkbass seems to be invading my inbox again so I think a few people here might like to hear some sound demos. Going to do some run through of the songs with settings. [soundcloud] I ran tone and distortion at around 1 o'clock but I still feel like it was a little too much drive and could have...

    Animato MADE FOR BASS!

Bump. Was playing around with my GE-7 Equalizer last night. Figured the best approach to fix the lack of bass... is to add bass. Here's the result so far. Work in progress, could boost a little less IMO but it's a start. You realise just how much it adds right at the end of the video too. I...

    Animato MADE FOR BASS!

Going to grab the popcorn out for this, will be nice to watch :) Here were a few notes I took about the whole thing while I had it on the breadboard and through some prototype builds.
