    "Do you play a Fender?"

Either way, he has that preference. The only difference is he has the capital to demand it. I would be willing to bet this preference came long before the success. Most bandleaders would like to think they have the potential to be high profile - true or not. They have a vision of how they want...

    Rickenbacker Hate

To some it isn't a matter of being "retro." Maybe more of a matter of being "classic." They aren't necessarily synonymous. There are a reason why the classics surpass being retro and remain relevant no matter the time period they find themselves in. The tux, a sear sucker suit, a stratocaster...

    Rickenbacker Hate

I don't think they need an update. That just means you don't like them. Plenty of folks love them the way they are.

    Rickenbacker Hate

I've played a 4003S almost exclusively for almost 20 years. I prefer the sound and feel. I could see where the ones with binding would hurt your arm. It always made me wonder why that was the most popular model. I also think they are pretty easy to work on and set up. That's just me. I have a...

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

For the record, what I said was " I will never buy a newer Ampeg model again." I will still use Ampeg and probably exclusively. It's what I have used 90 percent of the time for 20 years. I'm an Ampeg guy. I just don't feel like being the R&D rat for their Class D failures. I'll go tube or...

    "Do you play a Fender?"

I once heard a story similar about Lenny Kravitz. Maybe it was from this board, I dunno. Basically if you showed up with anything other than a Fender passive four string he dismissed you. Personally, I get it. I am a designer by trade, and aesthetics are important to many people (including...

    NBD-Brian Wilson devalues basses

They weren't fabricated! All but one was related! Then the other was a pal. Hardly fabricated.

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

I'm likely going with an older B-100R. I have ALWAYS ended up borrowing/using one from time to time and just loving the sound. But have always been worried about the low wattage. In the end, my shows arent huge and there is always PA support. If it ends up running out of juice Ill keep it and...

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

There is a 30 day return policy. It DID in fact crap out the first time in this time period. They gave me the option of a refund or a repair. The repair was free and I liked the sound so I opted to repair it. By the time it crapped the second time I was 6 days past the 30 day period. I asked for...

And I should note that the band I am playing in is not a loud band. Just moderate volume wise. The amp wasn't pushed much at all.

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

I wouldn't describe what I do as hard gigging. I just have been playing locally for 50-100 people.

I guess I could. But at this point I have no desire to pour money into this thing. I would rather take it out back and shoot it.

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

I definitely don't know, but in all instances with me it worked fine at home. So maybe the gig volume level? It' always about 3-4 songs in. It starts cutting in and out. Worsens until completely useless.

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

I'm not brave enough to touch Ampeg again period. Except for my vintage SVT. The new stuff is GARBAGE! Sounds good for the very little amount of time it actually works. So what brand has a similar sound that isn't made in China by a 7 year old?

Ampeg PF500 leap of faith gone wrong

Well, I bought a PF500 used from Guitar Center. It went out 3 out of 3 shows. Taken back for repair every time. The last time I got it back literally EVERYTHING had been replaced. Essentially a new amp minus the casing. And guess what? It died. It's going in the trash. I will never buy a newer...

    Ampeg bummer

I bought a used PF-500/210HE combo very recently from Guitar Center. First show, it started cutting in and out. I just picked it up from repair yesterday and went straight to a gig. It happened again but worse! The repair center is an authorized Ampeg shop. They replaced the circuit board. I'm...

    Am I asking too much?

Thanks everybody for their input!!!!!!!! While I'm not too worried about max profits I still don't really want to sell it for what an SVT-CL goes for. Maybe I'll recover the whole thing in chimp skin and set up a shrine. Or I could use the 4x12 cabinet as a belt buckle. Or I'll just fill the...
