I think there's been another string demo video posted on their Instagram. I've never been into the 'growl' thing in my own playing and preferences, and hearing it on strings other than the E string, it just sounds like he's playing on a poorly set up bass. Kinda bizarre. Is it just me?

Got home yesterday, and snapped this comparison photo today. Plain G is on the left, Tynex wound G right. Judging by the pegbox photo, I'm going with the Tynex wound G.

I believe it's a Golden Spiral G. They made wrapped and unwrapped sets. I have one of each, the plain ones are probably my favorite gut uppers. The Goldentones I had were an orangish red at both silks, if I remember correctly, though it's been a while.
