The devil went down to Georgia...

When did the devil ever play a solo? The only reason it sounds good when he plays is the band of demons, and only the bassist demon is good. Probably why you like it, not because of the fiddle, but because it's got a kick ass bass line. Johnny plays some real solo stuff that's great. (By the...

    "Legacy" fret club.

Assuming you also have at least 1 legacy fret bass, #10. No extra credit for 2 legs, or being able to see.

Kopio, #9 Do they actually make a multi scale fretless? It would not qualify for the .0 here.

    "Legacy" fret club.

Its from the fanned fret post. Someone referred to "legasy" frets. Meaning normal, not fanned frets. Figured why not run with it. Maybe in 10-15 years we will be as useless and outdated as 4 string fenders with 20 frets.

Stuck on what bass to buy, need opinions

No experience with ESP, but I do love my Ibanez. Only issue I see, is the finish on mine scratches very easily. Not sure if that's the same in the 605 or not, but something to consider. Although being such a light color it probably wont show as much. I played the new Ibanez talman, low end model...

What bass[es] are you wielding this last weekend in Jan 2016?

No pics on this computer (at work) but I'm using the Ibby 505 and the Sub-1 this Sunday morning. My BL doesn't care for the fretless tone :(

    Yes or No ?

How else would you get all that tort on the front? The configuration is nice. A friend has an american standard strat. He wanted some pickups with more punch. So he ordered a drop in made by and identical to the one a popular guitarist uses, swapped it out in a matter of minutes. This way, he...

Sometimes I ponder Leo's decision to fit his basses with only 20 frets...

Beat a dead horse? why not? Be honest, how many songs do you play that go up there? Maybe jamming out or soloing you do, but I mean when you are just playing a song. Thumping out roots and adding some color. Considering the music styles back then, the bass was walking a few lines on the low end...

I'm honestly sorry for all the stupid immature posts i put on here.

You would probably be better off with the apology and not forgetting. Better to see positive progress than starting over from scratch.

What are your views towards Ibanez and Yamaha?

I play my sr505 a lot. Love it. Fast neck, good tone adjustments, comfortable. At $700 out the door with a factory hard case and a hand full of other goodies it was a good deal to me. There may be better basses out there, but for the price and my personal taste this was it. Also, I went and...

    Seriously?

The fret markers are odd, but not too odd that I would call it ugly. I can see some functionality to the body design. The odd cutout on the lower end of the body could be used to rest it on your leg for a seated semi upright position. Much like some guitarists do with the flying V bodies.

    Bands. Who needs them?

Yeah, although we do have a worship leader who is a paid position. She is a music major, close to 50 years on piano, 30+ years on harp, and also trained in opera vocals. I don't think many catholic churches would allow the type of music we do. Drummer plays a caged double tama kit (2 bass drums...

Most 'out of your genre' show you attended

Was at a coffee shop in concord,CA with my girlfriend at the time. Some couple walked by and said they had 2 tickets for the Prince (or was he that funky symbol back then?) show at the concord pavilion. Show started in an hour and they had to cancel, asked if we wanted them for free. Opening...

    Bands. Who needs them?

I play in our church band. It's practice mondays, play on sundays. Blessed to have a number of highly talented musicians. We also do the occasional worship jam night, or youth event. We even do a Halloween party open to the public with the live band, and games for the kids. It's a cool dynamic...

Does An Old Dawg Need New Tricks?

I would recommend at least a few lessons with some of the git fiddlers you play with. To get the basics. Some proper lessons may help too. But if you are good at playing by ear, try the you tube. You can find many versions of the song you want there. I find this helpful as our BL is by ear as...

What is the benefit if a 5-string bass? 6-string?

I initially got mine solely because my singers range usually has us in Bb. That puts us playing Bb Eb F and G often. Hi Eb is too close to guitar range for my tastes. Although now I love having the ability to play the same thing higher up the neck, as well as adding a low B or C here and there...

Need some "know how" help from fellow bass players

In this style of music, I would stick with the roots most of the time, and only add some color in appropriate places. Like punctuation to a particularly emotional/strong/profound lyric, or a compliment to a guitar riff. If anything it seems the progression is B-G-A-A so root out the first 3 and...

Help! Looking for a new bass

Go try the ibanez talman. Entry level is $200, active electronics, PJ pickup configuration, thick Pi'sh feeling neck, great sound for the price. The Fender Jazz Bass Club Part Seven!!!

Its blue. If I remember, I'll post a better pic tomorrow. My tablet camera seems to make everything green and brown. I went to GC with $100 for a cheap practice amp. I had wanted a 5 string fretless J. Burst, tort, and rosewood. But that was not in the budget or why I was there. There was a...

I would not make it a fake road worn considering it's condition. If it was already a little beat up maybe. I like the idea of making it a true road worn though :D

    Most important techniques to learn?

I wish I could have learned to read music fluently early on. I can read a little (every good boy does...oh that's a D), but at this point I am half decent at playing, so when I try to go back and read a score it take too long to learn the song, I get frustrated and give up. With that, you will...

Really tired of the hate for Acoustic (not so mini-rant, sorry)

I'd say take the high road. "It's what I could afford at the time." "We all have to start somewhere right?" "Might not be expensive but it gets the job done" Anything like that. Or you could say "they wont let me use my (favorite high end rig) with the dual 8x30"+30x8" cabs in here"
