When I think about building a 2x12 it is because I would like an 8ohm cabinet that is smaller that I could use for smaller gigs/practices. My main rig is a tube amp with 2/4/8 ohm so I could even run that if I wanted to... but was thinking of pairing with SS amp at 8ohms.

I have played bass through my 504 before and it was interesting.. not quite loud enough. I have 2 2x12’s that I built with reeves purples in them. They hold up but I didn’t get quite enough lows.. it is a little Entwistly though.. maybe if it were 10 times louder.

Got rid of the 8x10 and now rocking the 4x12... which, BTW, actually fits in the trunk of my kia rio!! ...and it isn't missing anything. Sounds just as ballsy as the 8x10.

I don't remember off hand, but it is a little less than 1cu ft per speaker. I think it was 10.5 inches from the inside of the baffle to the back.. the main thing about that v4 cab is that it is braced already. Also, it isn't a big square like most guitar cabs.
