I’ve got a Fender Player II P which buzzes quite a bit at a couple of churches I’ve used it at. Maybe shielding would help but still couldn’t really recommend that it’s ready to go out of the box for beginners.

The real $500 question I haven’t seen mentioned here is which bass will stand up to LED lights and other interference and not be buzzing like crazy? Don’t think it’ll be a P Bass from my experience (or at least every P bass, I’ve had this problem with some fancier ones).

That bass looks really sweet. Looks like although no copper shielding they did some paint and foil on the pickguard? Not sure how effective that really is. One of my hang ups about Fender in general is that you can spend north of a grand and still need to shield the dang thing yourself.

Question just as a thought exercise… say you want a P body with a J neck in a color that’s basically only available in the mod shop. Is the next best option just grabbing a Warmoth body with a similar color? Really the inability to get a J neck on one of these is the only thing holding me back...

Yeah if only the radius was 9.5" instead. I really want something MIJ just to have one in the collection at some point though!

For those who have gotten to play the MIJ/CIJ Mustangs, how do they hold up compared to the newer Squier CVs? It feels like the main difference is the 7.25” radius on the old ones which to me feels like a downside on full scale basses but might be more fun on a short scale?

Did you go with a Player II neck? I think I am basically about to assemble the same combo if so. How are you liking it?

I prefer the colors of these Vinteras to the new stuff they come out with but I just don’t enjoy the 7.25” radius. Wish they’d run more of a Classic Vibe series like with the Squiers where you get the vintage aesthetic but modern feel.

Vintage might have a smaller fretboard radius which might make it feel more like a baseball bat, if it's anything like when Fender reissues vintage stuff. Could just be color / style. I'd go with whichever feels and sounds better. SX basses have historically been solid for the price... with...

I love mine. So heavy I had to get a thicker strap for it which is kind of annoying considering it’s a short scale which is meant to be more ergonomic, but such a cool bass.

I wonder how this would work on the PJ I modded with NM4s. If I flip the switch to middle it basically sucks a ton of the low end out. Curious if the knob would make that instant as soon as it’s not at 100% or it would gradually happen.

Are people out there actually buying Fenders at full price? I always assume you take 10% off as the max you ever have to pay if you even put in minimal effort or patience. The Player II series have felt really high quality to me for the price they came out at - now that they’re creeping up...

On the flip side why are Rosewood necks just so much more natural for J basses?

Trying to decide… if I’ve gotten by with an MXR DI until now… is this just overkill for someone like me? Is this unit more for people who need pro setups or spend a lot of time in the studio?

Yes that is covered when I said “no phantom power with wall wart” This means there is no phantom power coming from the mixer so the only way the DI is being powered is via the wall wart.

The bevel is really the only part of my pickguards that don't look great if you look really closely. I just hold the sanding drum at an angle, work slowly, and do my best. Not professional enough of a process to sell them, but for my own use or making one for a friend it works just fine!

If the neck is the only thing you don't like, why not keep the body and swap in a more comfortable P or J neck?

A similar situation is why I just learned how to use a rotary tool to make my own pickguards, now the sky is the limit for any color on any bass! Of course when it comes to a P or J those are so cheap and mass produced it makes way more sense to just buy one.

I think between the Vintera and the JMJ "chunkier" may be a little subjective depending on the player though. While the JMJ has a wider nut width, it has the 9.5" radius so to me would feel less like a baseball bat than the Vintera with the narrower width and 7.25" radius.

I was actually able to get a clip of the noise, if this sounds familiar to anyone let me know! I meant it happens whether we are powering via phantom power from the board, OR using a wall wart.

I haven't opened the unit up but the noise is persistent no matter whether the volume knobs are up, down, whatever. So don't think it's the pots in that case anyway.
