Sorry not to have followed up earlier. GC fixed the faulty pickup mount under Fender warranty. This bass sounds just fine now. I feel no need to upgrade the pickups. Thanks to all.

Yesterday I brought this bass into the closest Fender service center (my local GC). Hopefully this will be fixed under warranty although it doesn't appear that this is going to get done anytime soon. Thanks for all of the posts.

I do like the Labellas; I also have them on an SX Andromeda J copy and they sound and feel good on that as well.

Thanks. I agree its the Mustang PU that's key for me. I'm confident I'll be happy with the Nordstrom NM4, and I just thought sticking with Nordstrom for the J made sense. I'll probably buy from Best Bass Gear and follow their advice.

I think at the end of the day 200 watts is just not enough. I'm now thinking I will return the cab and pick up a used Rumble 500 instead.

FWIW, the Deuce Deluxe sounds better using a VT character pedal (I picked one up used), than the Para Driver

The cab arrived today. I'm undewhelmed. I think I've had unrealistic expectations about how much more power I need to really feel the bass. Not sure if I'll keep it (it does sound fuller with the extension cab than without) or not. I probably would be happier with a different rig entirely...
