Who can build a six string (semi-)hollow shortie?

Alright! I am talking to a builder in Europe now on the specs, since I can't travel to the US this seems more sensible atm. Will disclose who and what once we have a 'go!'. First time with this builder so it is a bit exciting and seeing if we can get on one page. Some specs still left...

Who can build a six string (semi-)hollow shortie?

Finding 30" strings for custom tunings is hard enough!! One of my request for builders is if it is possible to build it with a tailpiece that allows for enough length after the bridge to use full length strings.

Who can build a six string (semi-)hollow shortie?

Thank you all for the input. Some real gorgeous basses also in here, am really digging the Martin Keith models. The sound is amazing. I might still reach out to Martin at some point, because, wow. I was initially looking for something inspired by classic semi-hollow basses in terms of sound and...

Who can build a six string (semi-)hollow shortie?

Hello friends, Not sure if this is the right forum but we will see. I am looking for a semi-hollow sixer with a 30" scale. The only option for this is either a custom job or a Frankenstein mod that involves custom building. I have been digging through many a thread searching for local...

Can we stop with the balls references already?

Yes, it has been ever so slightly bothering me for a while. I don't find it particularly offensive but I agree that there are much better non-genital(/gendered) expressions.

    Vintage MusicMan Amp Club

Reviving this thread! I am using the HD150 head with the original 2x12 cab modded to a 1x12 (w/guitar driver). It is fantastic. I pair it up with a 1x15 combo for the low and clean bass. I play a kind of hybrid "drop tuned bass + baritone guitar" and this amp combination is perfect. It would...

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Isn't this easily solved by placing something in the send/return? Been looking at tap-able analog delays to replace my Moog on the road, the DOD kept coming up as an affordable alternative. Stil have to try it. Any other ideas? Tap & modulation & bbd

B string for 5-string short scale

Bump! What are the actually available options? I have the aforementioned Ibanez AGB as well as a custom short 5er. I actually like the .145 on the Ibanez (I tune to low C), and would love to try this gauge on the other bass -- that only takes short scale strings. Is modifying a long scale...

    The LGBT Bass Players Club!

Hello beautiful bunch, Working musicians in my country are grounded until at least the September 1st! So no work! Are there any techs or diyers in here that feel like chatting about some simple bass-mods and setup? I want to use the downtime maybe try and make my backup bass into something.

Jazz Basses with Soap Bar Pickups

I have seen quite a few Jazz style pups in soap bar size. But I've been wondering what soap bars are supposed bring you into precision territory?

Anybody dropped new pickups in one of the AGB/AFB guitars? I am looking at soap bars for my AGB 205.

    The Fifths Tuning Club

Too long post coming in... Nothing new for many "fifth tunings club" members probably, but hopefully helpful for curious folks. A few lines on what I think about starting out and progressing on all-fifths-tuning, in general: It all depends on the music you want to play, the sound and lines you...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Thank you for this tip. I will order two sets once I decide on pups. Their shop is really nice for custom tunings/mixed gauges so far! Still looking for cool pickup options for the agb205. Something around 1.5" x 4" soapbars will do. EMG/Bartolini have offers but they are not what I'm looking...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Ibanez AGB205 coming in next week! Need to setup and restring for different tuning and really want to upgrade pups. Any ideas? I want to stick with rounds for now, see if I can find somethinger better and less bright than the stock set. But pickups! They seem to be not a standard size. I...

Any cheap basses short enough to put guitar strings on?

With guitar gauges don't need the strings to be unwound at the tuning pegs - so you have a longer useable string length. So I think most shorties work. I have a few Baritone guitar strings on my Hofner (violin bass) which usually takes 32" scale strings.

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Oh the hofner switches, I really tried using the ones on my violin bass musically but it is just too clunky. The concept is cool and you can use them rhythmically like kill switches, but that's the best I got out of it. By now I always have both pickups + solo on and just use the pots if needed...

By XL I was aiming for a chunkier "full hollow style" body actually! One can always dream. Good to hear some more examples though. It is a cool bass. Meanwhile I'm still awaiting my Elwood - I might go pick it up in person so I can try out some other instruments too.

    The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Thank you! It does sound and look great! It doesn't seem to have the full hollowbody flavour I'm looking for, I suppose due to the relatively slim body. What I meant by 'resonant' in this case is how much the soundboard vibrates (like on acoustics) and adds to the tone. But it could be the...

    The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

That finish is beautiful!! What is it? What pickup are you using? And what strings so far? The body seems to be on the smaller side for a hollow bass - how does it resonate?

    The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

I was wondering, before I shoot Adrian a message - what are the short-scale & six-string options by Maruszczyk/Mensinger? Elwood Joker Cazpar any more? I think a Joker 6p will be very close to the bass setup I'm hunting for but I need some more options. (Got a shorty Elwood 5p on the way btw...

    The Fifths Tuning Club

Sounds worth a try! Although I would definitely need a wider string spacing than a baritone and use CGDAEB. I suppose the B would have to be a plain string at around .018. Not sure how balanced that will sound. I went for a (pretty straightforward) custom j-style bass. Will be finished early...

    The Fifths Tuning Club

Hello, all! Been lurking in this thread for years now and decided to finally get in. I play fifths tuning exclusively, no fourths and probably never will - although regular tuning is lovely! And arguably more versatile, but it's not my voice. Fifths and short-scales is where it's at for me --...
