Finding 30" strings for custom tunings is hard enough!! One of my request for builders is if it is possible to build it with a tailpiece that allows for enough length after the bridge to use full length strings.

With guitar gauges don't need the strings to be unwound at the tuning pegs - so you have a longer useable string length. So I think most shorties work. I have a few Baritone guitar strings on my Hofner (violin bass) which usually takes 32" scale strings.

Oh the hofner switches, I really tried using the ones on my violin bass musically but it is just too clunky. The concept is cool and you can use them rhythmically like kill switches, but that's the best I got out of it. By now I always have both pickups + solo on and just use the pots if needed...
