How feasible is it to replace all the black hardware on my Ethos HP 4 from black to chrome? I guess I'll just need tuners and a bridge. I'd like parts that are authentic and as close to the originals as possible.

I like a simple leather strap with a suede underside for grip. Just picked up a new 3.5" Levy's for 20 bucks. Pretty good so far. I got it mainly for my ten pound Les Paul but it makes all my guitars and basses feel less cumbersome.

I'm fortunate enough to not have any issues with gloss necks. The nitro ones on my Gibson guitars got even smoother over time.

Keep in mind ebony is more brittle and if you live in adverse climate, it might not be the best choice as it has a higher probability of cracking.

I once had similar rattling on one of my Les Pauls, turned out to be a tuner that wasn't tightened properly and the bushing was moving around. Might want to look at that despite what it sounds like. For me, it sounded like it was near the middle of the neck and it turned out not to be the case...

I really wanted one of those Tim passives until I learned that there's still a preamp inside (from this thread). That kinda killed the whole point for me. Should have just been wired the old way.

Yeah. I just sold my Fallout Green 4H for the same price I paid new because it was cheaper (and fortunately, a rare colorway). Very expensive instruments, especially given that they aren't custom shop level.

I think it's pretty important not to stick out like a sore thumb. You want to match your band visually as well as musically. Otherwise you just look like the temp and can be a distraciton from the overall performance. I recently saw a rock band where the bassist had one of those super sparkly...

Owned three, never liked them, sold or returned them right away and learned my lesson. Not buying any more Fender stuff. I'm with whoever said they're clunky. Once I moved to modern basses with wonderful ergonomics like my Spector, I simply cannot go back to those boat paddles anymore.

Yeah I hear you. I got my Ethos HP (pictured) exactly because it had the features of the "proper" ones, like neck-through, body carve, and top of the line electronics. The only place where it falls short is the tuners which can be easily remedied. I still do have a little voice in the back of...

I was thinking today (it's a big achievement!)... Fender and Gibson have their gatekeepers who tell you that "It's not a real Gibson/Fender if..." and it usually ends with "it's not made in USA" or something like that. Does Spector have this? Do we define what is considered "a real Spector"...
