Über-Jay V Spalted Maple

Quick update.

These are the thread inserts I use for the cavity cover. I use a drill bit slightly smaller so the insert has to be lightly hammered in.

I have changed my mind on the cavity cover. I just didn't like the black veneer. Admitting that to myself was the easy part. Stripping of three layers of veneer on the other hand...well...

The cover is now glued to a Maple veneer and curing. ;)

thanks for following this build.

Where does one get screw thread inserts? I'd like to get a few for a build. Is it a regular hardware store item?

These should be fairly easy to find. I buy them from a local shop. Those I use for the p-ups instead are more of a pain and I order them online from J&R Hobby, among the others. Still looking for a local supplier............. :scowl:

And here's the cover sanded to shape. Its not 100% done - a bit more sanding tomorrow. One screw hole is still needed, at the top.

Even at this forcefully slower pace I am just days away from lacquering. This dude is on the finishing line and I'm very excited.

I've been very busy planning future developments and getting parts for the next builds. Dealing with suppliers at times is truly frustrating. If I am expected to deliver on time, why some feel they aren't? oh well...

On a separate note, some of you have PM me asking where I get the threaded inserts. I understand this might be a challenge in some places and not exactly cheep online.

Over here, the type I use for the cavity cover are good, easy to get and very reasonably priced. Should anyone need assistance to make a purchase, do feel free to PM me. I'd be glad to assist.

Thanks for reading this far.

Thanks. (BTW, Ace is here too)

Before going ahead with final sanding and lacquer i assembled the bass to make sure everything is OK.

I always test the weight during the building process. This time I loaded everything else inside the cavity, including knobs, jack...even the battery. It now stands at 5.6 lbs / 2.6kg. Sitting and without a strap it's well balanced and albeit light when i lifted it it felt...er... solid, full... for lack of better words ;)

OK... then go back, dismantle everything again and get going with CA all over the Spalted Maple. The top alone drunk most of it.
Not sure what others use to do this. To me, fingers are still the best tool - lab gloves are highly recommended.

tomorrow, open a new bottle for more of the same. Oh yes :D
