OKOK... here is the update :D

It's Chinese new year over here. The shop is closed and I took off on the bike for a four days ride around the east coast. Just got back actually.

This week everything is closed. My local suppliers won't resume business before end of the month. I'm going to get the inlay probably one week after that.

For this build I am left with the inlay, really. The rest is lacquer, fretting, wiring and set up. I'm on schedule. Done by early March. Yeah baby :D

BTW, I just hope that, after the NAMM I will finally get the graphite neck for the other build. Yeah, the neck I ordered in August......... :rollno:

Happy Year of the Dragon!

Hi there... quick update. I am finalizing the sketches for a custom inlay. It's a cool little thing. I'll post the drawing as soon as it's done.

I went to the laser inlay shop yesterday just to find out that they were closed - do Chinese celebrate Thaipusam? Apparently yes. Interesting.

Other than that the bass is ready for lacquer. :bassist:

just saw this build.. and man.. i'm so amazed.. i was like "damn! i wish that bass is mine!".. each picture you post makes me drool even more.. can't wait to see more updates..

Thanks! :) nice of you. Updates will resume in a week or two, once the inlay parts are ready.

In the meantime, if you wish to see threads of previous builds, these are the links:

Thanks again!

ps: I too wish this bass were mine ;)

I'm back with a quick update. The body is now laser engraved. One more engraving is in the neck pocket - name and serial number.

This time around I had the line engraved straight as opposed to curved along the lower edge, like in the previous build. That's because I will add my signature above it at lacquer stage and this arrangement looks more balanced.

Rob, MM, I'm glad you like it. Thanks.

PDGood, I bring it to a laser engraving shop where they engrave plates and trophies on plastic or metal. I think I'm the only customer who shows up with wood :D I require the engrave to be done there and then - i ain't gonna leave there (for a week) something I've spent weeks working on! and I want to be in the lab to make sure all goes well. That's a PITA, I know. After the first time they know that too. So now they (over) charge me (outrageously) accordingly.

But i get what i want and that's OK.
