Which guard

First choice for me is the Gold Anodized simply because it’s unique and blends well with your wood choice and finish
Second choice for me would be Tortoise Shell because it’s pretty and contrasts nicely with the wood grain and finish color
Third choice for me would be black, because although it looks great now, once scratch marks become visible black guards can get really ugly
still not gonna drill anything until I’ve searched for some woods to try and fabricate something
Good idea !

My choice would be one of 3.

1) Satin Black (no laminations)
2) Clear Smoked (slightly tinted) The grain shows through and the tint has just enough contrast to make a difference.
3) No pickguard

I voted black but naked would be a close 2nd. I attached a pic of a guard i made out of basswood ply for my cheap Jazz kit. It now has black screws and black tapes, much nicer.

While I’ve always been a Tort guy (I think my ashes will be in a Tort Urn😬) I think the Black guard looks the best with this bass. Maybe if the Tort didn’t have the white layer?

Edit: Pickguardian.com has a solid Tort looking marble red guard. Here’s an example of it on a Fender.

I like the black anodized a lot on mine. I think it'll look great on your darker finish, but if it were me, I'd go with no pickguard and a cavity cover first. If you like it, great. No unnecessary holes drilled. If you don't like it, then try a pickguard.

If I coulda gone without a pick guard, I would've done that. But I had holes already so I went with leather.
7.10 as shown. It's my #1 P-bass.
