“Active” tone

Afternoon,

Unfortunately, I’ve learnt Last Resort by Papa Roach for my cover band.

I watched this video a couple of times for the transition to the outro. The guy’s tone sounds great.

I have a bass with active pickups (Sire V7), a helix, and a darkglass head. All these things, I thought, would easily give me a very “active” tone as I see it.

So, with that gear, is there any way to achieve what this guy has with Last Resort? I’m a bit clueless on this one, but the cover band plays a decent amount of nu metal, so it would be good if I could go some way to replicating that feel.

Thanks,

I don't hear anything special going on really, it sounds to me like both pickups on full (or balance in center detent) in humbucking mode (the newer Ibanez models have splittable humbuckers). Maybe a bit of a roll-off in the highs? It sounds a bit dark, but that may be the mix (for music like this, I would prefer steel roundwounds, actually, to give you a bit more clack). At least I can't hear any distortion, so that's optional.

You should be able to get close without too much trouble.
