$100 Bass Challenge - Marceline's Axe Bass

I only learned of Marceline the other day, literally, and perusing for C-note builds came across this...
Cool build, Maple-Glo! Though it has been a pun(d)ishing thread. Looks like you've managed to really sink your teeth into this one! If I tried this, though this may be hard to swallow, I'd be biting off way more than I can chew.
Teething aside... you do have some vampire enamel for Comicon, don't you?
Ahhh, I rooted around the thread some molar and found you've ordered some ^ ; to be palate: I hope they're worthy of the bass you're building. I was a ghoul-looking guy for my photographer friend's macabre calendar, but shoot, the dental prosthetics weren't ready in time for the photo-shoot; so there I was with a gorgeous damsel draped over my knee, a candelabra in one hand and a soft pale neck in the other and no ability to bite it.
Straight to the point – Don't gum up your costume with plastic false teeth, they suck like a bad cavity! Good sharp incisers take time to make and fit — if you haven't already been to a dentist for a fitting, get goin' ASAP!

I hope to do a little more work today. There's lots of sanding to do, routing down the back, and the pickup cavities. I should have some more progress pics later today.
The fangs and red boots should be in later this week, and the wig has already arrived. At some point, I'll try everything on, and post a pic of the costume once it's together.

Great progress as usual maple. I'm jonesing to do some woodwork, sitting out yet another bizzard here on sunny care-free Cape Cod. Winter Sucks.
Feel for you bro. It sucks in CT but on a different order of magnitude! I only have 4 feet of snow and no flooding or power outages to deal with. COLD
Wow, I do not miss the weather back east. I lived in New Jersey for over 40 years, and I'm glad to be done with it. It's partly sunny and 76 today. We spent much of this afternoon working on installing the back door to the car port/garage/mapleglo workshop, so no more updates yet. Stay warm.
Marked out the bridge and possible pickup locations. I probably won't get too much done today. I think I overdid it yesterday, between this and the door install project. I'm starting to feel that cold coming back, so I think I'll just rest.

I bet your costume is going to look sharp! The suspense has me on edge!
Sorry about the lack of updates over the past week or so. I've been under the weather. Apparently, there's some kind of virus/cold/coughing your head off thing going around, and I can't seem to shake it. It's been getting worse for the past 3 months, if you can believe it. Been to two doctors, took days off of work, etc. I decided to rest until I was better. Of course, I had to sneak out to my workshop today, and decided I'll do one thing and then get back into bed.
Marked out the pickup cavities, and drilled out some wood. My drill press does not have a deep enough throat to reach the neck pickup, so those I did by hand (for those wondering why a higher end drill press might not be a better investment). I connected with the pickup wire channel I routed prior to gluing the wings on. Looks like that will become a standard process on my neck through basses. Saves a lot of trouble later on.
I may have to sharpen those corners to a little smaller radius.
And, I received a few items in for my costume.
If I had the strength, I'd put everything on. My skin is certainly gray enough right now. But I don't want to push myself. I also expect a few more pieces for the battery powered amp to come in either today or Monday.
The next step will take some planning. The body radius. I have the router sled, I just need to make the jig. I'll start on that as soon as I'm up for it.

I first mixed a little black in there as I was afraid it was coming out too pink, but that just made it purple. I poured most of it out, and mixed in red which came out much better. It'll likely fade a bit when I sand lightly to level the yet to be installed laminate fret markers.
I was able to do a little more work today. I had been fighting off what I thought was a cold, but turned out to be pneumonia, so I've been resting and taking all sorts of vile meds. Anyway, I finally felt a little better today.

The outer areas I think I'll just use the sanding belt. I may just turn the jig sideways, and try a little that way, but the complex curves are making my head hurt. For now, I think I'll get back into my recliner, and take the rest of the day off.

Glad to see more action on this! But yeah, you have to take care of yourself, no matter how desperately all of your fawning fanboys want to bask in your 'glo-ness....

I took today and tomorrow off from work, so I may get a little more done tomorrow, but I may just put it off for the weekend. I also started working on the small battery operated combo over last weekend. That was just a matter of hooking things up - no woodworking for that project just yet. Still playing around with the speaker. I'm going to try porting the cabinet before I settle on a final design, but so far, so good.
