11-string Wishbass?

yes but it makes absolutely no sense, how would he find pegheads easier to build?

Unless he builds his tuners from scratch, and still, wouldnt make any sense.

That thing scares me. Not because it has 11 strings - I'd gladly play a bass with 11 strings...but the quality on that thing just looks so dodgey, that I can't see even spending the MONEY to buy 11 strings to string that thing up (let alone the WASTE of 3 decent pickups). I'd rather take that money to a pawn shop, and hope to find some obscure treasure. You could probably get a decent 4-banger for what it cost to create that abortion.

That's an odd looking bass for sure, but you know.... it was built because someone ordered it.

I have 2 Wishbasses. One is a very unusual 6 string bass that looks and plays like a cello. Acutally its modeled after a viola da gamba. It has a lovely sound and I've used it for recording several times. The other is a 4 string BG that I've played every weekend in an R+B band for the last 8 months since I got it. I'm planning to order a 3rd in a few weeks.

There is nothing usual about Wishbasses. He and his work is original. You should visit his website and read about why he does what he does. At first I thought his comments about not having a trussrod was strange, but since owning and playing two of his instruments I'll tell you, he's right. The necks are thick, but easy to play, and since I switched from my Rickenbacker to Wishbass, I don't have hand cramps and the morning after a 4 hour gig, my left arm is free of pain.

I'll give you that the 'fit and finish' is less than the production line models you see in stores. So, you'll spend a little time with some steel wool and doing the finish yourself (highly recommended) and perhaps some other little things here and there, but you'll have a unique looking and great sounding bass.

His finished product might not be top notch, but I give the guy credit as he pumps out alot of instruments for very little profit.
If you figure in the cost of the hardware and shop supplies, he makes like say $100- $200 for his labor.
As all of the Luthiers on this site know, It`s not cheap feeding a wood shop.

Maybe we should all lighten up on the guy.

The problem with that is, you don't really know who is posting the reviews or how legit the reviews are.

1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear is my motto.

I really don't care, I'm just saying it seems kinda harsh to just rip the guy. If his bass products are poor quality... so be it. I wouldn't expect him to show face 'round here... which is a shame. It's not like he is "ripping people off", right?

You get what you pay for.

What is "critical to the sound"... "the sound" is objective. I've played acoustics with the sound holes at different locations... each sound equally well, but unique. I'm just saying... Dang, give the guy a break... jank his basses a little bit, but be couth.

LOL. I always defended wishbasses but thats coming to an end in this thread. I havent been visiting TB for a couple of weeks due to a recent move (waiting on my inet) and this is the first thread I read in awhile, I don't know wether to laugh or cry.
