.115 question...

Anybody using a .115 for their low b on a 5 string? Care to comment about it? I need some input.

opposite direction of my preference - I use a .135

I suspect you will get a good deal more fundamental than from a .125, and will need an extremely light touch.

I was thinking of checking out a set of La Bella HRS .118's. Ever use them?

I'm at 130 but next set is in 135 direction. 130 b is floppy. 115 is more like fat E than the b. You can try 118 but imo it's too thin

I'm using La Bella Super Steps 40-60-75-95-118. They're not bad.

I guess it depends on how your bass is set up because I'm using D'Addario EXL170's at the moment with a .130 low B and it's way too tight for me.

I used to have the same strings. I get that people complain about floppy B strings, but I just thought it was the rest of the strings that were too tight. When I bought the Super Steps, I was a little worried that the .118 would be too floppy, but it turned out okay, and the set felt more balanced than the D'Addarios.

well, i'm using a d'addario .135 for my B string, and IMO it's perfect, i can even tune down to G although the lowest my band plays is A.

I love mine! I've got them on my fretted 7 and fretless 6. The .118 is perfect on both my 34" scale basses.

Plenty of low end, plenty of tension... suits me perfectly

I play very heavy handed at times with no issues from a .118 low B.
