12 string bass?

This is it my Waterstone 12 strings with some modifications, incredible wall of sound.

Before anybody else.

Jaco only needed 4.

Yeah, but Jaco had to use harmonics to get those notes on the octave strings! :spit:

I've got an 8 string that I love on certain occasions though it certainly isn't a "universal" bass sound.

But what I'm really GASing for is a 10 string or 15 string. My jury is still out on the double vs single octave strings. My experience is pretty much limited to my Carlo Robelli 8 string which I love and a couple of Brownsville 12 stringers at Sam Ash. Pickings are definitely slim for 10 and especially 15 stringers. I don't know if you can even buy a set of strings for these without a special order for individual strings!

Jaco only needed 4.

For sure I can't play a Jazz bass like Jaco...
But its only fair to say that Jaco if he was still alive probably could not play a 12ver like me! (well, I can't be certian of that of course):ninja:

I hope that comment was poking fun at the usual "so and so only needed four strings" Its not constructive to put ideas in a box and say "this is as far as this goes"
How will music progress if we don't let the builders and players come up with new ideas?
It's a bit like saying "Jimi Hendrix was no good because Segovia only needed a classical guitar..." Or:
"Jaco was no good because Mingus only needed a double bass"
You simply can't compare apples to oranges (apart from the fact that they both taste good);)

However, if the statement was a joke..... :p

emac.

I'd love a Waterstone, but the prices have rather shot up. It's getting harder and harder to find 12vers these days, both new & used. I want at least one more besides my Dean so I can tune one in power chords as opposed to just octaves.

Weemac: The 8 string Ric...awesome. :)
