17 and never been drunk. Do I suck?

I think Bruce Lindfield hit the nail on the head. There is a very big difference between getting "****-faced" and having a few shots to loosen up at a social gathering. I agree with you completely in that there's no point in being so inebriated that it's impossible to function properly. On the other hand, I do think you should try getting a slight buzz at least once to see how you feel. I think you'd probably enjoy yourself a lot more. But whatever you do, don't drive and do not play any drinking games! (I speak from experience on the latter:( )

That's down to your personality - it's hard-wired that some people are introverts and some are extraverts - so it may seem like that to you - but you have to realise that it's not the same for everyone!! :hmm:

You can learn to not be an introvert. I know I did. ;)

As long as people aren't driving drunk however, I have no opinion on what others do in terms of their drinking choices. Live and let live. :)

I'm 54 and have never been drunk in my life either. My body won't let me consume alcohol, seems to freeze up if I drink even a little bit and I have difficulty breathing. I even went to my doctor and asked if there was something that I could take that would allow me to drink alcohol. He just laughed at me. It really bothered me in college when everybody was drinking and I had to stay straight.....

Here in Germany the legal drinking age is 16. It seems to me that that makes drinking alcohol less of a special activity. By that I mean that it is a very common thing to do. It is so common (at least where I live) that people don't really care if you drink, drink little, or don't drink at all. Just as people would not care if you like peanut butter or not if you're in America. But if you live in Germany penaut butter is much more uncommen and it would stir up more interest if you like it or not. Does that make sense?
I have a few friends who don't drink. Occasionally, someone who does not know them will be a little suprised and ask them questions. But I have never really seen anything like major disrespect towards anyone of them just because of this "issue".
Well, if I think about it: I guess when we were 15 or so, there were things like peer pressure and a certain social status association with drug abuse. (=if you drink, your cool). But we just grew up.
I have been drinking since I was 15. I am 21 now and still do so, probably more than ever before. When I was 17 I have not been drinking for almost a year. But all these variations in my consumptions of alcohol depend simply on if I feel like drinking or not. I think I am a responsible drinker and have been for quite some time. Sure, from time to time you can see me running around in the streets vandalizing, but hey, so what.;)

I'd also say: Don't drink and play any games!
On Christmas eve we were playing Risk and after my first bottle of whine I climed on a table and executed a wrestling move on one of my friends because he had attacked me in the game. Or at least I thought he did. Well, actually I have forgotten why I climbed on that table. Anyways, since he is so fat, I bounced of him and crashed onto the floor. Then we played on peacefully.
I love christmas.:D

Very wise Johnny. Even if I've only had one drink I can certainly feel it's effects when I'm riding the motorbike. I have a self imposed zero alcohol limit when I'm riding. If I've got the car I may have one, sometimes two if there's enough time to spread them out, but no more.

Well Kirbs, you don't suck - you rock.
I'm 21, and have been legally able to drink for a little over 3 years, but my group of friends were all drinking on a regular basis 2 years before that (16 years old) - and I never touched any alcohol until I was almost 21...and that was only because it was on a harbour cruise that had a cover charge with free drink inside (and I knew I wouldn't get my money's worth on Coke).

I had so much fun, so about 2 months later I decided that I might drink again, and it was alright...until you realise how much you spend.:bawl:

The third time I drank was on Xmas eve last year. More fun and games. I'm never absolutely blind, or laying in the gutter vomitting (I actually haven't been sick yet:) ), but I'm a little more talkative, and have a little more fun.

To sum up, drinking sucks when you have to pay for it, so I only see myself doing it about once a month at the most. You see, I am to tight to pay for a taxi, so I'd prefer to not drink and drive myself home. Anyway, I prefer the taste of soft drink.:D

Im not a big alcohol fan...But I must admit I got drunk a few times. Not because I want to vomit and everything else... Is just one beer, one more, one more, one more a caipirinha, one more, more... etc...
I also smoke, and (hopefully) used to have a lil´addiction w/ drugs. Also, im only 19. Yes, im not a very good example of Healthy life. Anyway, the fact is that i never invite someone who doesn`t want a cigarrette or booze to smoke or drink. I think that you are cooler than most of those guys(i know a lot) who need to get drunk to party. Im not one of those. My problem is that I used to drink sit. And when i get up.. well... you know...
But don`t booze or anything. Im not alcoholic, im not drogadict but i smoke. I really can`t quit. Alcohol is the same....
SO be healthy, don`t be like Mike!

Peace, Love and vomits for everyone!!!!!

I am as far from a straight edge as possible. Smoked countless times (I guess you could have called me a full fledge stoner 3 months ago, ive quit that now) and have drank alot. In fact, I got some beer stashed in my house as we speak.

But, you have no reason to feel ashamed for never getting drunk before, in fact you should feel proud, you are one of the very few teens who hasn't. The kids who say "Man you're a loser, you have never drank before?" Are the kids that will be bagging your groceries when you're an adult.

Well ok, maybe that was a bit extreme, but still, you have no reason to feel ashamed for staying sober.

I know it's hard to think that far ahead when you're in your teens. I know a whole bunch of people who are now in their adult lives paying the price of not looking out for themselves when they were younger. Just in my immediate group of friends and family I'm seeing people develop all sorts of health problems, some very serious. If I extend that to my musician and work friends, it gets worse.

Everything in moderation!

That's one of those things I love about Germany and especially Hamburg. We've got a great public transportation system. I do have a driver's license (got it in the USA by the way), but I have not been driving for half a year or so. There is just no need to. I can get anywhere with the bus or the subway. Even during the day or when I don't plan on drinking I prefer to use public transportation because I think it is more comfortable than driving. But maybe that's just me. And since I am a student it's really cheap for me.

I find that drunk people are only amusing to those of us who remain sober.

Oh, c'mon, admit it, when someone is totally staggering drunk, it's really damn funny, especially when they are trying to say something coherant.

I don't get drunk at all. Never have. I have had drinks before, some quite hard, but never got drunk. Don't think I will, either.

::drunk voice on::

AAaaahhhh lovvvvve you. Yuur mah gray-est paaahhl. Cmere an gimme a huggg.

Don't look at me like that!!

:hiding:

Rock on
Eric

The only thing i have ever drank that had alcohol in it was when i was little my mom let me have a sip of a wine cooler once. Those things have hardly any alcohol in them.

I don't drink. My grandpa on dads side was an alcoholic and a military man. My dad said he thought sometimes that his dad would drink to escape reality. :( In i believe it was 1997 when my family hit a hard year. That year he died of heart failure.

A few months later my cousins were drunk and made the decision to drive. One of them made it out of the vehicle with a broken arm. The other didn't make it out. They hit either a tree or a pole and she hit the windshield. Died either in the helicopter on the way to the hospital or was DOA. :bawl: That year really sucked.

I have my reasons not to drink at all. :bassist:

edit: I'm also 17.
