17 and never been drunk. Do I suck?

thanks for the kind and insightful replies. its not that im scared of alchohol, i do drink, but all my freinds are pushing me to get drunk, which i dont want. every party that happens (or most of them) they get sh**faced, and im carrying them around. now, they dont want me to get sh**faced, they just want me to get drunk. and thats what i dont want.

ah well, they just gota understand that im happy holding them up rather than choking on my own tounge :D

My mates were talking about their most memorable experience when they were drunk. anyway they asked me what my favourite time was and i said 'ive never been drunk' and im proud of the fact that i never have. they looked at me shocked. anyway i explained to them that getting so much alchohol in my system that i cant walk and im laying in my own vomit isnt my idea of fun, and that the closest ive ever been was on new years eve when i found it difficult to get up after sitting down for 15 minutes of drinking. the fact that im 6 foot 4 and 89 kg (196 pounds) doesnt help either :)

anyway they kept explaining how they are gunna get me 's**tfaced' next time they drink and what not. i know they arent, but i just dont find it cool when im rolling around on the ground un-able to walk or unable to tell people what my name is. ive got plenty of time to loose brain cells via alchohol when im over the legal drinking age.

im really proud of myself that ive had so many oppourtunities do get blinded, but i didnt. that was because i was helping my drunk freinds around all the time  why is it that i feel really singled out and akward when i tell my freinds ive never been drunk? :spit:

I'm proud of you, too. Stick to your guns. There's no benefit to getting drunk at any age, and the consequences can be serious, up to and including death. I have a family member waiting for a new liver. Boy, he really knew how to party, though.

Kirby, it's good to know I'm not the only one. I turn seventeen in two months, I seldom drink and in moderation. (I can hold my own, but I've never tested my limits.) While we're at it, I consider myself strange, for being so idealistic, considering I'm a sixteen year old guy in a rich town in northern New Jersey where most people are spoiled and handed everything (I'm spoiled, but I worked my arse off) I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I'm very religious.

Yep, I'm rambling, but if you ask me, Kirby, you're cooler than the "cool" drinkers out there for having your own views and sticking to them. That's cool in my book.

havent rolled around in my own vomit and still had fun, me and my friends had a fun time singing crappily to some iron maiden and metallica i cant remember though they said i knew the words but i dont even know one line to a maiden song lol.

It's like Louie Louie. The lyrics are imprinted into the molecular structure of alcohol.

That's not true - you can learn to live with being an introvert, but you can never change your personality that much. These kind of preferences are part of what make you who you are - the only way to change that much, would be to become a different person!!

Here's a link to a site which explains the Myers-Briggs personality test and here's a relevant quote from it :

"However, your type is a permanent influence in your personality, that influences your choice, where the opportunity allows, of which preference or team role to perform.."

Getting drunk is highly overrated.

I haven't touched a drop of booze in about five years.

I'm done chasing women down Barham Blvd. in my Jeep with one eye closed (so I can focus).

You know, it never ceases to amaze me that in a society like ours, booze is legal and even encouraged, and it makes people completely unable to function, while pot is illegal (in most places) and you can still score an 800 on your SAT's while you're smoking it.

Not that I'm encouraging people to break the law (cough)... I just don't like to drink anymore!

Actually "drunk and disorderly" is an offence and you can be thrown in the cells for it.

But it is quite possible to get "nicely drunk" - say 4 or 5 pints of beer at a nice social event like the local Jazz club or at the pub(bar)with work colleagues after a stressful day.

Or at home - yours or friends' - drinking a bottle of wine until you fall pleasantly asleep....there's nothing like it!

People are antisocial - not alcohol!!

Take responsibility for your actions and get drunk sensibly!! ;)

"OK", I'll play...
I was drunk @5-years old.
1963...I'm at my uncle's wedding reception in Philly.
There's this lion spouting out orange juice...or so my grandfather thought. So, he keeps loading up my cousin's cup & mine. Eventually, we're 'singing'(?) & can barely walk straight. My mother goes off in Italian on my grandfather(her father).
I can still recall thinking, "What's her problem"?

...best damn OJ I've ever had!
:)

Then came the 'dry' spell-
Didn't buy my first beer until I was almost 22(& the drinking age back then was 18).

IMO, getting drunk isn't worth the price my body pays for the next week or so!
;)
