1959 P-Bass For Sale

A music store in my town is selling a vintage 59 P-Bass. They want nearly $10,000 for it. Considering that it has some fire damage to the headstock and the far end of the neck (although the I honestly think it looks pretty cool with a charred-black headstock), do you think that's a decent price?
The rest of it appears to be in pretty good shape except for the usual worn-out belt buckle spot.

Here's a 58 for 10 grand that I noticed while browsing the other day. The headstock looks a bit different though:

It's a beautiful bass, but the collector value is badly damaged. Check it out, and see how it plays. If you love it to death, and never can imagine trying to sell it on, get it.
If buying as an investment, I would wait for a more pristine piece to show up (they do), and then maybe put in a few more bucks.

10,000 a decent price? LMAO. It wouldnt be a decent price even if it was in like new mint condition. The number of superior, more versatile custom basses you can get for far less then 10k is unending. Cant think of any bass or guitar or even doubleneck, that Id think was worth 10,000.

i saw a 58 P in Austin TX this week at Bass Emporium.. same price , 10 grand, but it is in VERY GOOD condition compared to that one.. met the bass whisperer and we each played it.. I dont have 10 to drop on a bass ..

I did see a RW fender P while i was there too... for only 1k.. even though the reall 58 was great, it was not 10 times better than the Road Worn one.. The RW one was actually pretty nice oi thought..

IF the fire damage wasn't there, then I think that would be an O.K. price for that bass.

In that condition, with zero collector value due to the damage.... NOPE. Way out in Left Field with that price tag.

What did they do with that headstock to only have fire damage to it? Stick wienies between the tuning pegs to roast em over a campfire? Dang just cut a stick from a tree limb

I played that bass on Wednesday.. It was nice..... real nice.. but i wouldn't spend 10k on any bass.
