I am going to start making one shortly, although it wont be an actual 1970s since I'm doing it from scratch, I will be following the schematics of one.

I beg of you to not bring me down by telling me that it is too difficult or anything like that, I have professional help lined up.

What I need to know is EVERY part that I need. Remember, I said part, not tool. So could someone give me a list of all of the parts that I need and the info I need about them so I can start buying the parts.

The schematics I will be following are...

I do not know how to read schematics proficiently so thats why I wanted the parts list as my help will not be around me until Monday and I want to get started making my price list ASAP. Could someone give me some directions as to how to tell where the switches and knobs and things are?

Not to be insulting in the slightest.....but.....you can't read any kind of electronics schematic and you plan to build yourself an SVT from scratch!!??

If they made a clone kit you'd still have to be able to read a schematic to even stand a chance.

From scratch - with nothing, I think is a tad over ambitious....

I have to say I admire youre "up and at 'em" spirit of adventure though. Just don't kill yourself trying - there are some high voltages in there!!

is there anyone here that could make me a drilled circuit board for this:

If there is anyone here that would cut me a deal on something like that it would be nothing short of amazing.

Also, if any of you have 6550 tubes that you would be willing to donate that would be awsome, even if they are used, if they work they work, I can always get new ones later.

ha ha, killing myself is the exact reason I'm getting professional help on this. While it would be very nice to virtually have a 70s SVT, it wont do me any good if I'm dead.

I'm just going to start planning out the pre-amp right now. I've mapped out the capacitors and resistors. Could anyone tell me what the things down in the right hand corner are?

Also, what specs should I look at for a fan, or could I get away with just about any high powered fan from somewhere like a computer store?

Once again, if anyone has old poweramp or even preamp tubes they don't want anymore hit me up, it would really help A LOT.

Are you serious? Wont this cost many times more than buying a 70's SVT??? I saw a late 70's SVT on my local CL for $1000. Just the tubes, transformers, and headbox (not counting the guts and the labor) will run close to $1000.

I dont want to rain on your parade, but :rollno:

If your professional wants to takle this job, then no doubt he will know every piece needed after looking at the schematic. Make him give you a price quote before he starts.

Also, if youre looking for free parts already, then you need to re-analyze your budget for this massive undertaking!

I see it as trying to build a 66 Chevelle SS from scratch from a catalog without at least a donor car to start with. Can be done, but will cost $$$$$$$$$$$

That pre alone is considered to be an advanced project in a working condition.

If You mean what I think You mean, I'm with the "this has to be a joke" gang. If the 6.3V doesn't give You any clues, a tube amp probably isn't the best or safest project to start with.

That's about the easiest part in Your project, about any fan that matches any voltage in the project can be used.

Almost any music store that handles tubes and does tube amp maintenance could probably sell a few for spare change.
Troubleshooting and tuning any tube equipment with old/defective/poorly working tubes is a waste of time IMO/IME.

IF they are a reputable pro shop though, they're going to ask some questions and decide after that wether to sell or not. Most probably not.

You do know that You're lookin at $1500 in parts for the project and a simple mistake smokes half of it in a fraction of a second?

This may seem rude to You but You're asking questions that clearly indicate that the task ahead is way over Your head.

I sincererely hope that You decide to build something simpler as the first project.

I am going to join in on the 'this is a bad idea' chorus. Even if you place no value on your time this project will not save you any money. If you place any value on your time at all you are way better off just getting an old SVT. Their are about a billion of the things out there, tend to run between 1 and 2 thousand dollars. Less if you are going to be doing some work on it anyway. If you like the idea of tinkering and building stuff from scratch, that's great. Really, I'm all about that stuff. This is not a good first project. Start with something easier and smaller, and start with a kit rather than from scratch.

I was planning on building the preamp, and then later building the poweramp.

I'm not that worried about saving money, I just think if there is any way to save money then why not take it?

As far as buying a real 70s svt, I have absolutely no want or desire, I like building things for myself. That is why I have built my own cabinets and different things like that, they have always come out sounding at least, or far better than ampeg things in my opinion.

And as far as kits, I have looked for those before and came up with ABSOLUTELY nothing. Feel free to send me a link, however.
