Hey, at least Leo was able to get the strings lined up over the pickup pole pieces. Check out a four string, two pickup, EB stingray by way of comparison. And why are you yelling?

you may want to note that he stated "the sound in HIS head"... not yours... treat the opinions of others as you would want yours treated maybe??

- Check the bridge for starters. Solid stainless steel block. Holds sustain for about 3 weeks.
- Birdseye maple neck.

No doubt the Sterling has a wider variety of usable tones- I'm sure 30 years of R&D have come up with something- but you could probably say that about pretty much any vintage bass (or amp) out there.

oh and... the button just above the SHIFT key. Give that a try.

and calm down man, it's not like anyone was saying your sterling is crap and the sabre is the end all be all of basses. to you your sterling is the sound in your head, to him its the sabre, to me its my Lakland and to jim bob it could be a 3 stringed wish bass. Point is thats his opinion and he is more than entitled to that.

Guess i got two duds then, because the strings on mine line up perfectly . . .

Whats the point in trying to compare the Sabre, Stingray or Sterling? They are all different basses, different feels and different tones. Music is subjective, so lets all not let mr CAPS LOCK LOLS! get under peoples skin

I'm not saying its impossible, but I haven't seen a two pickup, four string EB Ray yet that had good pickup to string alignment. Look at post number 18 above -- the picture of the sabre from down the bridge -- notice how the strings are perfectly centered/aligned over the pickup pole pieces on BOTH pickups. The four string EB neck pickup is simply too wide, and the strings will not center over the pole pieces. I personally believe that it affects the sound, especially with string bends (you can easliy bend the G string off of the pole piece), but it also looks bad. I wouldn't accept drips in the paint or rusty hardware on a new bass either.

Given the fact that the strings taper towards the neck, and the 2 pickups on new HH models are the same size, obviously the neck pickup poles will be slightly off center on the G string especially. It is so slight that I doubt it noticeably affects the sound.

Either way, who cares



And no, I dont hate you because you can play.

I don't find it to be "slight" at all. In fact on most two pickup four string Rays, especially the HH models, the G and E strings are almost completly off of the pole pieces. Anyone can easily go to the basscentral website and browse the four string Rays to see example after example of this. Many people don't mind, fine.
