1980's Peavey TNT 300 owners

If you liked it then, I guess you'd like it now?
I threw mine down a flight of hotel stairs trying to kill it as I was tired of carrying. It did not die, and I gave it away on CL.

I traded it for lighter gear in the early 90's. Never got to gig with it. It was loud enough to. I was an idiot with tone back then. I would immediately turn every tone knob down but the lowest/bass knob, which I would turn all the way up. ??

I had one for roughly 18 years (it sat idle for fifteen of those years as I was not playing out). Can't remember if it had the Black Widow driver. Managed a decent sound out of it, much better than the MKIII Bass w/2x15 I owned prior to the Combo.

Had a Combo 300 with a BW and loved it. Loud amp but weighed a ton.
They are still available at eBay and CL. If you liked it back then you might like it still. The big difference would be get yourself a "modern" Black Widow speaker to get better response. Try it out, doesn't cost a cent to try, right?:thumbsup:

I had a TNT in the 80's and ended up putting a BW into it aftermarket. My recollection is that it wasn't as loud as the weight would suggest, and the tone was a little on the dry side. My next amp was a Mesa Boogie D-180, so my recollection might be unfairly harsh on the Peavey.

It's what I had back in the 80's also. Bought it in '83 while in high school and gigged it for about 5 years through college and a year or so after playing out once a week. It thought it was good at the time, but I bought an SWR SM400 and Hartke cabinets in the early 90's and remember it was a huge improvement. The Combo 300 was heavy but the worst part was the plastic strap style handle on the top which was all but useless. A set of recessed handles on the side would have gone a long way to more positive memories of that combo!

I use to own one, but the one with Scorpion speaker (which sounded better to my ears, less brilliant), playing a lot of gigs in 1986-1992.

Same for everybody: great amp, too heavy. I traded it together with my small double bass amp (a Poytone Mini Brute, small and sweet, but fitted a bass guitar not so well) to get the GK MB150 I still own and use for small indoor jazz gigs.
I suggested a student of mine, who was looking for something good, loud and unexpensive, to buy one of them: he's very happy.

that handle, yeah.
wheels helped.
throwing it down the stairs helped.
giving it away on CL fixed it. :D

Mine had a black widow speaker, not scorpion, those were guitar speeks.
