1983 Precision Elite I w/ gold plated hardware.

It'll never happen. The walnut ones are worth more, but I've never seen any of the mint ones sell for more than $2600.

These have sold for around the 2K range in excellent condition, but the current market value is less than that, IMO (just like everything else). One of my favorite local shops has a sunburst one that's been on the wall for over a year - they're asking 999, and the guy told me they'd probably take 899. It's all original, and in pretty good condition.

Still a great trade you made though! Would love to see some photos.

Here another. you can probably tell the gold plating has been flaking off on the bridge, knobs and tuning keys.. but that doesn;t effect the sound. took her to rehearsal last night and the guys in the band was like whoa! what umph.. so, other thatn some new strings and a set up, (she has a little fret buzz), i'm not changing a thing...Notice also that the fine tuners are missing. and she is not very heavy at all. Actually, i have a MIM jazz, w/bad ass II bridge, and has been modded with P-pickups at the neckthat has-been my main player, and that is one heavy ass bass. wow. my shoulder is screaming by end of a set.. i thanks for the all the comments and advice guys!

+1. I've been GASSing for an Elite for quite some time, but won't buy unless its a complete piece. I'm fully aware that the fine tuners aren't necessary but they were there on the bass when it was made, I want em!!

Wow. What a difference a few decades can make. I was an active player when these first came out. Man.....you couldn't give these things away if you bought one and tried to sell it. Very few players liked them back then due to the premium price and the view that the sound didn't warrant the additional costs.

Now they are vintage, valuable, and sound amazing? Cool.

I've had both an Elite I (Black/White/Rosewood) and an Elite II (CranBurst/White/Rosewood). I paid $600 for the ELITE I and $850 for the Elite II. Both had OHSC. The Elite II was a Monster! LightWieght, Powerful, and Pretty! The Elite I that I had was Super heavy, and the pickups just didn't have the Punch they should've had. So I "upgraded" to an EMG pickup, and I added a PickGuardian Pearoid pick guard. It sounded/looked better, but I never connected with it like the E-II. (I've traded both since...)

Considering these were the "Flagship" basses in the early 80's they are Bargains. It seems standard Fullerton P-Basses pull in almost double what the Elites do. And with the Schaller Tuners, Bridge, Straplocks and the active electronics, these basses are pretty hard to beat!

Another line to look at are the Boner Basses from the early 90's. The Jazz / Precision Plus & Deluxe Plus. Fancy hardware, Kubuki Preamps, and Lace Sensor pickups. They're going up in value, but deals are still out there.

However, if you want to decrease the value of that '83 Ellite, go ahead and put a Badass bridge and Seymour Duncan p/u's in it. That'll lower the value of the Elite to the level of the GLee, and it will only cost you a few hundred dollars to do it.



If the Elite "sounds amazing, great tone", why would you even consider changing the bridge and pickups?? :confused:

You are getting some great advice here, I'd leave it be. I owned an Elite II and wish I never sold it. They only made these for a few short years, that's one of the reasons they are now sought after.

That said - if I were to change anything on yours - I'd have picguardian do a gold anodized pick guard, and if it wouldn't ruin the PUP, I'd paint it flat black. It's end up being a bit of a mash up of modern & retro looking, with the guard playing off of the gold hardware.
