1x10 for bass enough?

It's not all about speaker diameter. The particulars of the cab have to match the driver. There are some incredible 10" drivers out there.

I have a REALLY small 210 that I'd recommend as a portable cab: bag end d10xd. It will keep up with any drummer, and is 18"x20"x12". Really slim.

I've used a 35w Laney Hardcore 1x10 combo amp at a full on rock gig. My stage rig crapped out and I pulled it out of my trunk and stuck a mic in front of it, and it actually worked out really well. On its own the amp would have never done it.

My Yamaha BBT110s did plenty of bar gigs. The driver isn't 100% anymore-- not blown, but a little distortion is audible on the decay of a note.

What killed it (I think-- I mean I was running a 600 watt mesa boogie into it at 9:00 on the master volume) was not rocking out on some 50's stuff with my jazz group in the ever present "last set for the drunks."

It was using it as a monitor for my keyboard player outdoors on a hot day by a huge hot grill. Overheated the voice coil, I think.

I've a new 4 ohm Emminence 10" on the way for it, and will take it right out and gig as soon as it's in!

Actually, you probably wouldn't even notice the distortion (I'm picky.) -----------------redacted--------------- :hiding:

Oopsy.

...maybe I can get francois on my side if I get banned for forgetting!

Ton français est très bon !

From a Montreal dude.....
I had a crush on half the girls in my french class back in high school. You'd think it would have been distracting, but it sure made me look forward to french every afternoon!

But really, I had an awesome teacher three of my four years there. Thirteen years later, I still have most of it.

PM replied, bassolp.... I really can't sell you the speaker, since I'm no longer a supporting member. See Mujibunga's subtle reminder. :D

I regularly use a 1x10 and a Markbass LMII with a jazz quartet and a pretty loud big band and it works just fine. I usually played (2) 1x10's in the big band until one day I forgot to plug in the second one and found out that 1x10 was enough. Now, I carry the second as a stand for the single 10 and as a "just in case" I need a little more bottom depending on where I'm playing.
