2/15 ported cab

You are going to have to know all the internal measurements, including size of ports just to be able to MAYBE reverse engineer some speakers into it.
It is NOT as easy as putting some speakers in a box.

Your going to have to download speaker cab design software like winisd.
Then you are going to have to put in all the measurements and the T/S specs of speakers you are thinking of using, then figure out what changes need to be made to the cab.
Alot harder then waiting for a complete used cab to come along. Patience is a virtue.
You could also call the store and see if they can give you any info. Was it another company's build? Was it homemade? Things like that. If it was made by an established company you should just be able to do some research and find what drivers they used and just go from there.
If you want it to work and not spend an eternity trying to change it into something it's not, find out the brand and put the same speakers in that it originally had.
Speakers determine the cabinet and finding a driver that will work well in a particular cabinet is working backward. The number of speakers out there number in the hundreds- do you want to wade through all of the information in order to find a small group that might work, or do you want something that works NOW?
Find out what it had, as I wrote above.
Someone will check your findings if you post the cab dimensions. If it's a common cab there will be known options. Some 15's have flexible tuning options published which you can borrow, maybe change the ports on your cab to match. You don't have to be a total cab design genius to get the right result.

While I agree it is best to find the best match speaker for the box (and maybe change the port sizes) the botom line is how much money do you want to invest?
You could be north of $300 just in drivers alone.
The other side of the coin is buying some inexpenisve speakers and have fun with it.
Carvin has some decent drivers. Back in the day there were lots of CTS speakers that probably were dentical in different size boxes that sounded OK and no one died. Not everyone can afford the best and I'n thinking if you spent $10 on a beat up cabinet, you are not expecting it to sound like a Bergantino.

You could either run some cheaper Betas or check out some of the Daytons that Parts Express sells.
Like Jim was saying. The cheaper side will be the best. If I had the extra dough I would just get a decent rig. So what speaker .that is good .thanks. it is a smaller cabinet.
...I would expect much of the excellent advice you'll be given pertains to matching cabinet internal volume to a given speakers parameters (T/S parameters etc.), this advice is given to not only maximize bass response but to keep the low frequency tight and clean...as for me I'm kind of thinking about upper mid performance -the Eminence Delta Pro 15A has mid definition beyond many dedicated bass guitar 10" speakers yet has respectable low response as well. If used with that new 'old' cab you'd have an efficient (around 103 db with 1 watt of power) cab that could handle an impressive 800 watts with only 2 speakers, I'm sure you'd have enough ballsy definition to match levels with a drummer and screaming 4x12 one night while grinding at low level in a jazz trio the next night ...this Eminence 'pa' type extended range speaker has considerably flatter frequency response then its musical instrument (mi) speaker counterparts. 'mi' speakers are designed with dramatic dips and peaks for specific tonality however the Delta pro 15A offers more of a continuous smooth rising upper mid that drops off before 5 khz harshness would be an issue.

Not 'really' relevant to this thread, but I had a couple of Ampeg PF115HE cabs that I loaded with Eminence 3015 -non LF- drivers, after wonderful help from people far more knowledgeable in these matters than myself here on TB.
They sound wonderful imo.
Similar to how they sounded with the stock drivers, but lighter, punchier & able to handle much more power.
I'm really happy with em. I think they keep getting better too. Perhaps as the speakers "wear in".
The cabs are sealed (no ports) & have a pretty steep roll off in the lows- but this is easily countered with amp eq & I really like the vintage vibe of em.
