2 Notes Opus

Well, not anymore. I guess this is the thread now?
Well, too bad. I guess the initial didn't respect Talkbass conventions, probably because it was started by a commercial user, who should have?… I don't know…

I saw this other bass demo today:

We can see how it's possible to adjust parameters on the pedal directly, but I still thing that a few more knobs would have been easier to use rather than paging through the menus, but it definitely sounds great

I’ve been wanting to try out some of their gear for a while now. The software looks super easy to use, which is a big plus for a gorilla like me who really struggles these days when so many manufacturers are going fully digital with their stuff. It’s a different category of pedal but this is the sole reason why the SA stuff doesn’t work for me

If the Opus can replace my Darkglass Element I think I'd order one. Maybe more features can be added in a later firmware update, but I'd really like to see it have an audio interface and bluetooth aux in. Powered by USB would also be great too, but I don't think it would be possible to add that ability through firmware. I'd just like it to have the least amount of cords possible if I'm sitting down with a laptop, Opus, and my bass.

Am I missing anything?

for those that might be wondering the same, here’s what’s new in the Opus, in addition to what’s already available in the Cab M:
  • An all-new blackout colourway
  • 5 pristine TSM™ Preamp emulations; 10 total slots for future Preamp models via free Firmware Updates
  • MIDI input for seamless assimilation into existing set-ups; MIDI breakout cable included
  • USB-C connectivity for future-proofed rapid data transfer
  • A collection of 40+ premier Acoustic Impulse Responses
  • A revised DynIR cabinet collection
  • 40+ artist-series presets from the likes of Pete Thorn, Michael Neilson, Jack Gardiner, Tom Quayle, Adam Steel, John Browne, Jay Leonard Jay and more
  • Dual Mono routing facilities: Simply define a terminus in OPUS’ DSP signal chain and you’re set to send two distinct signals from the DI (XLR) and LINE (1/4-inch TRS) outputs
  • Various performance improvements and workflow enhancements
“In short, OPUS is an end-to-end tone shaping Amp Simulator and DynIR™ Engine whereas C.A.B. M+ is a DynIR™ Engine that also features a single Clean B’man Inspired Preamp.”

I bought this yesterday and it should arrive in a couple of days. The reason I wanted to upgrade my Cab M+ was because of the power amp sim. It really makes a difference in my opinion. To have a “better” amp sim is a big bonus and hopefully they will expand with more bass amps soon.

So, dual mono routing is a new option that wasn’t on the CAB M-series, right? For live players that still use amps, this opens up the possibility of combining the features of the Opus with any preamp we like (say, the ReVolt). This is an interesting development.

Since I’ve not used a digital device with midi controls, how would a setup work for accessing presets on a gig? I assume some type of additional foot switch would be involved?

Configuring OPUS to Send 2 Different Signals From The LINE & DI Outputs
Prepare for various performance and recording situations with OPUS' Dual Mono / LINE OUT ROUTING capabilities!

Simply define a terminus in OPUS’ DSP signal chain and you’re set to send two distinct signals from the DI (XLR) and LINE (1/4-inch TRS) outputs. So, whether it’s piping a fully-processed DI signal to FOH and a TSM™ amplifier emulation to your amp's FX return, or simply tracking a dry DI and DSP-processed signal simultaneously in a recording session, OPUS delivers all the flexibility your performance demands.

The LINE OUT ROUTING is accessible through OPUS's MENU directly via the pedal's screen:

  • First, from the Preset Window on OPUS’ OLED display, push the right encoder to enter the Main Menu
  • Then, navigate to the “Global” Menu (indicated by a cog icon) using the right encoder to scroll through the sections and push the right encoder to enter this menu.
  • Once inside the Global Menu, scroll to “Line Out Routing” using the right encoder
  • You can then use the right encoder to select where in OPUS’ DSP architecture the signal for the ¼-inch Line output is fed:
    • NO PROCESSING: The LINE output sends the dry input signal from OPUS without any processing. Please note, this non-processed signal still passes through OPUS' DSP and therefore features the same latency as the signal feeding the XLR DI output. The latency can be configured in the AUDIO PERFORMANCE menu.
    • AFTER TSM AMPLIFIER: The LINE output sends the signal after the PREAMP, POWER AMP and NOISE GATE within OPUS.
    • AFTER CAB SIM: The LINE output sends the signal post the volume levels of the DynIR cabinet emulation microphone channels within OPUS.
    • AFTER POST FX: The LINE output sends the signal featuring all DSP processing within OPUS. With this setting, the LINE and DI outputs send the same processed signal.
This is new as the C.A.B. M+ operates as you would expect with the same signal path at the XLR/DI and the 1/4" TRS Balanced output.

Midi will require a midi footswitch controller.

The OPUS really is a much enhanced C.A.B. M+ and very capable stand alone unit that can accept the ReVolt preamps, but is another step into DSP and away from the analog nature of the ReVolt.

At the same $299 retail, it is better but the C.A.B. M+ is no slouch unit. I'm not going to use many feature of the OPUS, however the styling and perhaps a modicum of sonic improvement is always nice, too.

There's already a thread, it's better to keep everything on the same thread I think:

Well, not anymore. I guess this is the thread now?

Commercial users are not allowed to create their own threads to sell their products. Oops! And I never did get answers to my questions.

Hi All, yes unfortunately our post was removed, but don't worry - we are here and will answer any questions!

Great news @TheLopp! Let us know how you get on!
