2 Notes Opus

Thanks for getting back to me - this all really helps!

Ah, in this instance, I would suggest leaving your unity gain staging as is and let's try some other options if you dont mind.

Could I ask that you disable all processing in OPUS and see if the noise is present in your signal chain pre-OPUS? I am wondering whether the poweramp is amplifying this a little more as driving the volume of the poweramp emulation will add a degree of compression that in turn will raise the noise floor.

For another test, could I ask that you try plugging the OPUS PSU into another power outlet and see if this alleviates the issue. In addition, trying your Cioks DC7 could also be a great test.

If you could report back and let me know the outcome of the above, that would be super!

Thank you!
Hey sorry, thought I replied

I think you're right, and the Opus' various tone sweeteners were amplifying a bit of background sound. I switched from using my capo to shift line Olympic in addition to trying powering it a different way, and via the headphone port and DI of the SLO more background noise was apparent.

Confusingly, it seems to be caused by my Fortin zuul noise gate - when it's bypassed, there's pretty much no background noise, and when it's on there's a low hiss type sound. I tried putting the zuul in the fx loop of the SLO and it made things a bit better. Not sure what's going on there, but I'll have to test more.

All that to say, I think you're right and the power amp + maybe enhancer in the opus were amplifying noise that was present that I couldn't hear as well without them, and now it's sent me down the rabbit hole to resolve that so I can have quiet recordings with the great tones the Opus is outputting :)

Thanks for getting back to me and I am glad to hear we are starting to isolate the issue.

Have you tried switching power supplies on the ZUUL? I ask as this may be a grounding issue.

Let me know if this helps and please keep me updated on your progress here!

Thank you!

A little virtual practice tonight. The ashdown is my favorite 2x10

Starting my return to the Two Notes Torpedo Remote and OPUS...reordered, contacted support to recover my account, with more purchased IR's, for getting 3-4 great rigs set up.

This time around I'm only using a Pigtronix Philosophers Bass Micro Compressor (18v) and Mooer FOG Bass Fuzz (Mammoth) into the Opus mounted on a D'Addario Dual Pedal Riser. I'm going retro with effects, in the Roland D 210 combo "Flat Amp" effects loop, with a Boss FV-1 1/2 rack COSM multi effects unit. Tuner, EFX some Bass specific items.

(Will see how the FV-1 works out in other situations, as it has some mastering stuff and may be nice before/after the Opus, too, when recording in the near future?)

A lil old, a lil new, better sound & flexibility, too! :cigar:

Ross from Two notes here. Great news! Just wanted to jump in and say I have seen your support ticket this morning and let our team know to jump on this ASAP! On a related note, it would be great to see how your rig progresses, specifically in relation to the placement of the FV-1! :)

Just a small correction...it's the Boss VF-1

I've been going over the manual (145 pgs) and it's not too hard to get around even for a Midiot like me. I was glad to find out that the Control 1,2 jack and my Boss FS-7 dual footswitch will scroll up and down the presets OR do Delay TapT and Reverb On/Off as an alternative.

I'm just a bit toasted on pedal format and see a bunch of utility here 10" x 8" x 2"...can fit in the guitar gig bag pouch with the Opus and pieces parts.

Thanks for getting the team on it, too!

I see recommendations to have the input level of the Opus as high as possible without clipping, and an input pad that can be activated if your signal comes in too hot.

But what if your signal comes in too cold? My passive jazz lights up the first two or three LEDs on the input meter during normal playing.

Using only the opus, can I boost my input level?

Do you have the input set to Line or Inst?

There are also Line in and Instrument in presets that you might try.

Input is set to inst.

I'm not sure what you mean by line in and instrument in presets?
Thanks for getting in touch. Ross from Two notes here.

When connecting an INST level signal (like your passive bass) you are unlikely to hit the orange section of the input meter. In fact, I have the same experience with my P-Bass. There is no real issue here and maximising your input is more important when additional pedals are connected before OPUS - or a preamp - where significant noise is likely to be induced into the signal. I have personally has zero problems with this configuration and simply use the processing blocks in OPUS to normalise my output. Let me know if this helps!

@Ross Davies

Q: I see the Two Notes promotion just released. I am wondering about the Astro Repeater and effects and the situation relative to using those with live OPUS scenarios?

I'm wondering if this is a studio computer horsepower thing or is it sent into the IR loader and accessable or is it just a "patch" that is part of another sound sample?

What are the capabilities and limitations??

Thanks!

Great question! GENOME Components like the Astro Repeater cant be loaded in OPUS as they are very CPU heavy in comparison to the DSP in OPUS. However you can use them in conjunction with OPUS if you take a computer out live with you. I have actually done this in the past with GENOME running Dual cab sims and post FX after OPUS and it does work well.

Let me know if this helps!

What are the system requirements to use this type of situation live or in a studio?
