2 Notes Opus

Thank you very much. I made it work today. Needed to switch to Custom EQ and fiddle around there.
Got a bit more noise than with the Element and the Elements' noise gate i better imo. But i can get another noise gate when the rest is 100%.

My time with the OPUS has been limited so far and I’m just starting to demo cans and wrapping my head around the whole unit. I used the element mostly as a headphone amp and was disappointed by the can selections, mics and limited placement. The Opus is a full fledged studio in a box.

I have a revolt on the way and I’m testing cabs and power amp tubes. Since the opus has so many guitar features I’m wondering if there is a best practice in choosing the tube specifically for bass. Are there tubes that work better or worse for lower end freqs?

Ross from Two notes here - for bass, I tend to gravitate to the 6L6 model as this provides great low end response and a well rounded tone!

The torpedo remote on the desktop is a complicated beast if you don’t know what all the options are. All makes sense to me except for the IR manager. When I click on it I see a list of waveforms and can choose the one I want.

I understand these are the IR profiles, but I’m not sure what they do or if I choose different mics do they switch automatically or do I have to choose.

Are all the profiles in the app run their these 20 or so IR?

Again. Great price of tech and I’m down with adding more cabs.

Something I would like to request as a feature, is an eq for each mic. But then again, who needs more options than the opus offers. lol

Thanks for getting back to us and thank you very much for your kind words.

The IR Manager section is for managing static IRs - these differ from our DynIRs and wont allow you to mic up a virtual cabinet as they are simply wave files. They have no relation to our DynIRs and should instead be thought of as an alternative solution to the DynIR technology.

Revolt here!!

I was really surprised though that both midi cables from the opus box and the revolt are 1/8 to email DIN.

I had assumed the opus had the 1/8 to 1/8 midi cable in it. What. Able to I need to buy for these two so that they talk to each other?

Also, do I switch the input to line when connecting the revolt

Ross from Two notes here. You can either use a standard 5-pin MIDI cable and the breakout adapters included in each unit's box content or a 1/8-inch Aux cable. Let me know if this helps!

Just got an Opus the other day and have been digging it! Running my pedalboard into it, and have the power amp out of the Science Mother preamp going to the Opus with that set up with a power amp w KT88 and Subway 410 w U47 mic.

Has anyone noticed some additional noise when running the power amp sim? I suppose that's realistic since you'd hear that through your speakers on most tube amps (higher noise floor than solid state) while not playing, just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to minimize it. I am running a gate, but the noise can still be heard a bit in addition to my bass when not playing loudly.

Maybe the input level needs to be higher (I have my board set to basically unity gain, like it'd be running into my amp) to minimize the noise floor while playing direct via the Opus so the power amp and mic levels etc don't need to be as high, which likely makes the added power amp (and sometimes EQ, if that's on) noise more noticeable?

Really enjoying it otherwise like I said, but I'd like to get that sorted for recording purposes if possible.

I also notice an impossible-to-tame hum/buzz when using the tube power amp sims in my Torpedo. But then, I'm also running the power amp pretty hot, in order to simulate that delicious pushed power section. But, as with actual tube amps, doing so seems to create quite a bit of extra noise. I've just chalked it up to the nature of the beast.

In Torpedo Remote, where is your input signal sitting on the bar graph out of interest? It may be that you need to provide OPUS with a bit more signal from your Science Mother pre. You may find you can reduce the Power Amp volume when pushing the input signal a little more.

On a related note, how are you powering OPUS? Are you using the included power supply?

I keep my signal at around unity gain with a compressor and other pedals (dirt, etc) and it's usually somewhere in the 3-5 green dot range on the input side, and the power amp is above noon to get it to sound good (similar to sloppy_phil). The 47 fet is at +4 db, preset level at 0, and output level at the default

I'm also using the included power supply, but was considering testing it with my Cioks DC7. The pedal board and opus are connected to a Furman power strip

Had the same thought about turning my preamp volume up, but then I may have an issue if I'm running the opus as my DI and another cable to my amp, since the amp would get a hotter than normal signal (vs unity)

Ah, in this instance, I would suggest leaving your unity gain staging as is and let's try some other options if you dont mind.

Could I ask that you disable all processing in OPUS and see if the noise is present in your signal chain pre-OPUS? I am wondering whether the poweramp is amplifying this a little more as driving the volume of the poweramp emulation will add a degree of compression that in turn will raise the noise floor.

For another test, could I ask that you try plugging the OPUS PSU into another power outlet and see if this alleviates the issue. In addition, trying your Cioks DC7 could also be a great test.

If you could report back and let me know the outcome of the above, that would be super!

Thanks for the fast reply, I'm using a Tech 21 Midi Mongoose and from what I can tell the only CC controls are through the TRS ports. Is there a way to change the Tuner to a PC port?
Thanks for getting back to me. Sadly we cannot adjust OPUS at this time to take PC changes for MIDI CC controls as PC changes are reserved for Preset changes currently.
