Recommendations?? I am done with smaller speakers. I have always been a big fan of the feel and tone of 18's, but they are a little sluggish for a more progressive sound. I think a dual 15 cabinet is what I am and have been looking for...
Big Bertha's are good on paper, but I have never heard one and have not found an SWR that I like the horn sound.
Old version Peavey dual 15's would work, but I would dump the crappy BW's and put something else in them. Short of having LDS make me one, what else is out there that does not weigh a million pounds and will give me a huge amount of power handling. Need it to handle about 800w and be 4Ohms.
car subwoofers 1000w a peace and look at the db though 92-94 is a good range 2-10 is the same as a 20 inch speaker and use a horn mid/tweeter with crossover cap if you like a little high in your sound :)

+1 for the Berg NV215. Hard to find but great when you do. A pair of the NV115s are pretty mind-blowing as well, and a little easier to cart around. I don't notice any loss of lows or "movement" between the single NV2x15, or 2-NV115s. Plus the additional mid-range driver is nice.

Anyway, the NV215 can be had well within you budget.

Glad to see the NV215 getting some love. I have one of the early ones with the fuzzy cover. It still looks like it just came out of the box. I am actually looking to downsize as I'm probably going to start going through the PA we have. Will I sell it? Not even at gunpoint.

So what other than size and a horn would be different than a pa dual 15??
I've actually tried this before, and the answer is.... well, it depends on the specific cab in question. If it's a larger volume, ported cab, then they will generally pound. The horn is not a big issue because you can kinda EQ around it. Smaller sealed cabs sound like smaller sealed cabs. For years my "outside/crappy/beater" cabs were a pair of old Yamaha 115 FOH cabs (shelf ports) and the horns/crossovers removed. They weren't a clear as my SWR stuff, but they were deep, warm, and really loud. Oh, and very cheap:)

Someone recently posted that they were at the Carvin store in San Diego and played through one of the Carvin LS 2153 loudspeakers with a Carvin head. Don't remember who it was but they did say they were quite impressed with how it sounded. Put a couple of wheels on the bottom and a handle and you would have an inexpensive and fairly easy to move 215.

I haven't played the Dually but I must say I am tempted to buy a pair. Awhile back I found recordings with both the Eminence and Faital equipped version. Personally I much preferred the smooth extended top end of the Faitals. To me the Eminence drivers have too much gank for the sound I am after. Anybody have a link to these recordings?

Beyond that I have some old EVM 118Bs that sound pretty sweet with big tube heads. I believe the EVM series had a small diameter voice coil intended more for extended mids than maximum wump. If that's what you are after, you might look for an old Boogie dual 15 with EVM 15Ls or 15Bs.

I have sold a Mesa Diesel loaded with the EVM 118B. This sounds way better than I thought it would. I have used it as my only cab on several gigs. I only sold it as I have too many cabs and some need to go. I stick with the lighter weight options these days, less wear and tear on my back.

Yea, that is my issue as well. I am not digging 100 pound cabinets. The cabinet will need to be a light as possible without sacrificing tone, clarity and bottom end. My current cab's are 72 pounds combined and I am thinking they are heavy. Everyone has offered up a bunch of great suggestions. I have been searching like crazy. The Berg sound good. The Carvin is only 73 pounds which is good. I just wish there were somewhere around me that sold any decent equipment. Nothing I have found as of yet made me want to buy it sight unseen.. Tough decisions..
