2008 American Standard Jazz? HELP, PLEASE!!!

He's a really good friend. But, he is NOT a musician. And... his friend owns the bass...
Never said that it was vintage...
I'm just looking for clues/help, as to whether it's worth it, to help a guy out, and not get stuck with something that isn't worth the dollars that it's gonna take to bail him out...
I said that it seemed as though the neck had never been removed. I could very well be mistaken. Just stating an observation. And, the "owner", said that He, himself, never had.
Unfortunately... I can verify (sadly), that it isn't that. I wish!!!It’s telling as in it reaveals a lot about the person, or as in “I’M TELLING MOM!!!”?
There is ONE model that has a blockier contoured body and blocked neck that nobody has mentioned.......
AMERICAN SELECT!
Of course they also have a flame maple top (which could easily be verified if we had some way of seeing what it looked like

Perhaps one could x-ray the neck to see if there are stiffening rods? Take it to the airport? Go to the doctor? Dentist?
Create a suitable diversion and then pull the neck out of your pants-leg and go mr Bean on that x-ray machine!
The serial number does match an American bass. The body looks like a vintage reissue from the look of the sunburst (looks great!)
The body contours match the select I tried once.
Could be a neck mated up with a body that came from two different Basses or maybe a factory guy put it together for themselves.
Either way looks great! Sounds great! Plays great (you said it yourself).
Just buy it or you will forever regret the one that got away.

No need to sell anything. And... I really like my ugly black basses. The fretless, I made that way. The Deluxe, well... yeah... it's pretty ugly. I'm not in love with her looks... But... Plays/Sounds great, and... I got it for 100 bucks. Same kind of situation...The serial number does match an American bass. Thanks for the effort/info. Although... this looks to be tobacco burst. This bass is sunburst. I posted some pics that were forwarded to Me, via phone. Not very clear, sorry. Will post some more, tomorrow, when it's here again.

8 hole pickguard, VS 11? Is this a factor?
People... I really DO know my basses (and guitars). Although... I "handled" this one for about an hour, have not set foot in a music store, in a very long time. Have no NEED for more instruments. I'm not a knowledge "junkie." But... I like this bass.
And... in the process of being a "nice Guy", to help someone out, because I am (luckily) in a position to do so... I just don't wanna get screwed...
Heck, it may just sit in My closet, for years... waiting for it's "owner" to come back for Her.

Thanks for posting pics! Look at your second pic - the truss rod adjustment at the headstock. Note that there is no dark wood within that truss cavity, unlike your other basses (and every other bass Fender ever made). This is a clear sign of a cheap counterfeit bass. Mystery solved.

Heck... maybe... your car can be traded for My MIJ, Jaguar that "found Me", for 200 bucks... It's worth around 600 bucks.

You can order that stuff from sites online and request any serial number and other markings. Ships direct from China. Customs can’t stop ‘em all - most get through. I think they are around $100-200.
Note, its technically illegal to sell that bass. GC takes down your driver’s license and phone number when they buy off you. If this guy tried to pass a fake, he might be dealt with after the fact, or just banned from GC for life (which might be a short time if we’re talking about the life of the store chain...).
