2008 American Standard Jazz? HELP, PLEASE!!!

It actually very much does. There is no American standard bass ever with blocks and binding. Also they all should have the stickers that show the part number on both the neck and body. It's understandable that those things could be missing over the course of a decade but not if the neck has supposedly never been removed.
The only thing that matters is that you like it and feel it's a good deal. I don't think that bass is an American standard. Regarsleaa of that, I would never expect an American to feel like a mexi. It should be a bit better than that.

Unless it is was assembled in early '08 ... completely depends on what time of year in '07, an '07 and '08 are very different basses component wise, and if you are going by year assembled, or 'model year' ...
Yes, '08 was a transition year, but it was actually the '08 MODEL YEAR, which begins in the second half of '07 ... that is why you will see AmStand basses appearing with the HMV bridge, lighter machine heads, no S-1, etc with a Z7XXXXX serial # ... they are actually '08 model year basses, made during the second half of '07 ...

Perhaps one could x-ray the neck to see if there are stiffening rods? Take it to the airport? Go to the doctor? Dentist?
Create a suitable diversion and then pull the neck out of your pants-leg and go mr Bean on that x-ray machine!

If your expecting to find a "neck date" you won't. Even in 59 they stopped putting the neck dates on for a few moths. Today's production doesn't leave markings. If it's only 60 bux and the body your worried about, buy it, it sounds like a nice bass. It's going to feel different than basses made in other countries. I like MiM's. they always play and sound good like Squires.
If you have a dimarzio in the bridge and a stock fender in the neck you might have a really unbalanced output. Dimarzio's can be quite louder. See if he has the original bridge pickup to keep in the case and get a Dimarzio in the neck. I would highly recommend a set of EMG's.
I find the MIMs are generally very good, especially from 2008 on, but sometimes you get a dud and sometimes you get a great one.
If it had block inlays it might be an American delux. How many bolts on the neck plate. Was it string through? How did the bridge look.
I've picked up Mim strats that play better than the 3700$ les paul next to it.
