2008 American Standard Jazz? HELP, PLEASE!!!

Those, 3 nail holes in the front and or 2 pin dowels on the back are things to verify vintage Fenders
because they cost money and time to reproduce. Usually the best way is the headstock logo, or the finish. The wood is the most important thing to verify and the hardest to do.
How good of a friend is this? Sounds like he went to Guitar Center and they knew it wasn't an American Standard. I suspect their offer was less than $520. I hate doing business between friends unless everything is known to each other. Like, I would hate selling a car to a friend and then the head gasket blows the next day.
No pictures? I scrolled all the way through 6 pages and there are no pictures?

I've never seen an American Standard Jazz with blocks unless the neck had been changed or they are stick on blocks.
2008 American Standard Jazz basses did NOT come with block inlays. The bass is not a genuine American Fender Jazz.

Yep, American Deluxe Jazz and American Elite Jazz Basses have blocks and binding; I own an American Deluxe Jazz in Ash/Maple or Natural.
Pretty sure the "American Deluxes" of that era had abalone dot inlays though, not blocks.
Judging by everything I for some reason decided to read in this thread, I would bet this is the bass. No markings on the tuners, and probably not string through (although the OP never clarified whether it was or not). But then again. Nobody will ever know, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO PICTURES. (and yes ALL CAPS is yelling.)

See, the thing is, the serial number is on the neck, and no standard American Fender bass had blocks and binding. If it were a ‘75RI, or a Deluxe, it would have a different letter in the serial number (V, DZ)- so right off, you’re almost 99% looking at a fake.
But what is it? Could be a MIM 70’s but why change the serial number and put a “Made in USA” on it, except to rip off a potential buyer? At that point it could be any $199 copy bass you can buy from China illegally. With a good setup, it can look good and play good.
Why pics are important is bc forum mbers know stuff like the font and placement of stuff like the logos and serial numbers. They know what the tuners and bridge should look like. They know where the bridge pickup should be exactly. Ie - they can spot a fake.
$580 isn’t chump change. I also doubt GC offered $520. They usually offer 50-60% of what they feel they can get. Were they going to put it on their wall at $900? Sounds steep.

OK Guys... Now that I'm home from work... at my laptop... and not on my phone... I can type, without becoming frustrated at my fat, bass fingers...
The guy sent a few pics to my friend, who forwarded them to me.
I will post more, clear ones, tomorrow, when He brings it by, for a second, more thorough, inspection.
Also included, are a couple of pictures, that depict why I really don't need it. $580.00, is really no big deal to Me, IF I don't buy something worth $200.00, with it. Although, my career leaves Me little time to play anymore. THIS, is a big deal. The bass, in question, really does sound, feel great. Again... what made me question it, is that it feels really DIFFERENT than my MIM's. I'm mainly talking about the body (compared yo my MIM's). The neck, feels 100% like a Jazz.
I'm pretty confident that it is REAL. Just being cautious. Again... I don't NEED it. Just trying to be a good guy, to someone in need, without getting sheistered.

Also... the case (even though it has no bearing on the instrument), is a genuine fender, with the big 'ol chrome logo on it...

There isn't a bass. That is why there were no pics. I don't own it. It was offered to me. I have yet to agree, if there will be a bass...
