As a Scotsman I say have it in the country that has the UN Headquarters, whatever that country is. That makes sense to me!

You don't want to do that. Trust me.
Not unless the U.S. dollar reverts to its value against the pound of several years ago.
London would be a poor place for a GTG - the attendance would be weak, prices would count out most US members and, to be honest, it's a lousy city to spend time in these days anyway.
EDIT Perhaps I was litle harsh on our capital here - I get fed up in London becuase whenever I go there I'm usually working. But for those who haven't seen it before it's probably worth a look.
I would disgree - London is a great city, with a huge number of reasons to visit - as evidenced by the vast numbers of tourists!
I was at Greenwich for Jazz Summerschool - the week before last and there is so much to see in that small part it's unbelievable!
The place where all dates and times start from - wonderful buildings and parks, views across the river and then we had the Red Bull Air Race - which was dramatic and spectacular!
London is by far the best place for music in Europe - I've got tickets to see the Berlin Philharmonic and Chicago Philharmonic play in London in the near future. There are huge numbers of music venues - including the best Jazz scene in Europe.
You have 5 or 6 Premiership football teams in easy access - I've been to great matches at Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs - plus the national stadium at Wembley!
You have shopping in the West End, the Kings road etc. - great markets at Camden and others - the backstreets of Soho and Carnaby Street!
You have the best Art Galleries - the South Bank, the Tower and masses of historic buildings, Houses of Parliament etc etc.
There is so much in London I could go on for pages and pages!!

You're right, Bruce, London is a great city to visit for tourists, and I wouldn't argue with any of the points you make. Maybe I've just spent too much time there - I confess to being very jaded when it comes to London these days. It probably would be a good place for a European GTG. But personally I'd rather visit NYC again for a number of reasons - it's obviously more of a special trip for me as a Brit than just going to London, which I do on a regular basis anyway; the attendance for a GTG would be better as TB is basically an American site; and as a city I think New York has lots more to offer visitors than London does (with the obvious exception of Premiership football 
).

Personally I'd rather visit a beautiful historic European city - like Zurich,Salzburg, Vienna etc. - but I think that being objective - London has a huge amount to offer and is the best City for music in Europe.
Maybe someone could start a European GTG thread and see what people think? I agree that London might be okay for this if someone could fix up a decent venue, but other people might have some other suggestions. I don't think we'll get many US members over, it's too damn expensive in London for most Americans at present!
