2009 International GTG

Bruce - seriously - you've mentioned Switzerland and Croatia as being "beautiful locations". Have you any idea how beautiful New York state is?
+1 on these! Besides, everyone has to go through O'Hare to get where they're going, anyway.
Seriously, though, Chicago's a great location, in my admittedly biased opinion. A big (clean, scenic) city with plenty to do outside the GTG itself, the airline hub to end all hubs, centrally located, good public transportation (my one gripe about the GTG is that the LIRR only ran to Floral Park once every hour) yet still pretty car-friendly and parkable, and cheaper than NYC or LA for hotels/food/etc.

Musikmese is the world's largest music trade show. Bigger than NAMM apparently.
March is considered low season for air travel. For the most part. Different places have spring break around then, but it's not peak travel season to Europe. That's the good news.
The bad news is hotel accom during Musikmese will be pricey and hard to access. We may have to look at satelite town and rail in. Or, just be bass players and stay in flea bag motels.
Not sure why we have to stick to an annual event for us all. The object of the game is to get together, meet each other, try gear. Limiting it to once a year is like limiting a trip to a music store to once a year.
Whenever there is any GTG, people will and won't be able to attend.

It really annoys me that you call it an international GTG, when really it's just a US one...
Maybe it could be like the Ryder Cup and alternate between the US and Europe - that would be fair(er)!

you know how these -started-? -i- invited folks to my house. THAT was the first talkbass get together, even before the boards were on UBB. i had been organizing "the bottom line" get togethers for years before there even was a talkbass - that's how a lot of the early atlanta folks found their way here from over there.
then get togethers started happening elswehere because folks decided they were tired of us georgia folks having all the fun, so they got together and did something about it.
so if you don't like it, do something about it. btw, "complaining and whining incessantly" is NOT doing something about it.

I appreciate you points - but this thread seems to be saying that there will be one and one only, "international GTG" in 2009 - so even if I wanted to host an international GTG in 2009, it couldn't be distinguished from this one.
As BMC said - I don't see why we start from this premise - why not have several GTGs that are "international"?

since nothing has been decided about the 2009 GTG yet, what exactly would you like us to put at the location?
