+1 on these! Besides, everyone has to go through O'Hare to get where they're going, anyway.:D

Seriously, though, Chicago's a great location, in my admittedly biased opinion. A big (clean, scenic) city with plenty to do outside the GTG itself, the airline hub to end all hubs, centrally located, good public transportation (my one gripe about the GTG is that the LIRR only ran to Floral Park once every hour :() yet still pretty car-friendly and parkable, and cheaper than NYC or LA for hotels/food/etc.

Consider it, folks!:)

I agree with Tony, for maximum convenience (big airport, choice of lodging, other interesting things to do for those staying longer) - East Coast (NYC, perhaps DC), West Coast (LA or SF are both fine with me) and North Coast (Chicago - my kind of town).

I appreciated the efforts John made reaching out to the local bass vendors and a big thumbs up to those who came. I know Lakland is in Chicago, and I believe there are one or two companies based in LA IIRC ;).

okay okay how about an even ground for both Americans and Europeans? INDIA!!:hiding: no no dont go about checking my location....

its a pretty cool place, with deserts and mountains and beaches and everything (at far apart places ofcourse!) :hyper: plus i'd make sure some 50-100 Indian bass players and other musicians would be there, probably easily more. hotel and food and all the other expenses in total would turn out to be fairly cheaper :D:ninja:

The problem with lots of travel is not many will be able to bring gear. You may have noticed those that traveled the furthest didn't bring any gear.

Perhaps Bruce could turn his attention to American baseball and the WORLD SERIES. It would be great to finally straighten that out. :)

ok, let's go over this again. If an event is attended by more than one nation then it is indeed an international event; regardless of where the event is hosted. It doesn't get any more logical.

Not all GTG are international. We had one here in Philadelphia this year that was just for the surrounding area. In fact, there is a whole forum for GTG and I don't think any of them are called "international."

TalkBass is an International community, reason enough alone to call it an International event. The AFM is called an International Union since includes both the U.S. and Canada. My position is called International Representative even though my territory is all in the U.S.

In that case, only TBers whose home country are members of the UN are allowed to come - and TBers from the U.S., Soviet Union, China, France, and the U.K. get the final say in all decisions regarding said GTG.

But really, I agree with the Chicago location. It's drivable for myself and a whole bunch of TB'ers here in the mid west.
