A co-worker of mine had an Elise, an Exige 240R, and an Esprit S4S. Guess which one he drove to work every day? His '88 Town Car. He didn't race the Lotus' at all, he did drive them around town, but only rarely, because as fast as they were, they're also a pain in the ass, literally.

Lotus are nice, but utterly useless as a daily driver.

A sports car is that, a car to enjoy, theres no joy in going to work or going to the super or taking your kids from one football field to another while they beat each other among un-muteable screams...

The OP hasnt stated the purpose of this new purchase, however 426HP tells me its not for going to the super.

Camaro for sure, although the Challenger is pretty hot. But I've owned 2 Camaros ('76 and '84 Z28) and have been lusting over the new ones.

Funny enough I really dug the look of the newer GTO's, though more so the holden monaro's and other stylings of it before the pontiac restyle. Should be mentioned, the old GTO supped up tempest and wild looking beast so I think the newer ones get more flack then deserved for being so reserved.

To each their own, but the second time I mistook a Cavalier for a GTO I knew that the car was doomed. Who wants a performance car that looks like a cheap econobox? Sales (specifically, the lack of them) proved my point.

IMO the '66 and '67 GTOs were among the best looking cars ever to come out of Detroit. The first series Camaro wasn't far behind.

Being a product of the 60's I grew up with the classics. I like seeing the older styling emerge with newer technology.

Today's cars all look the same to me.

Many of todays car models are similar even from one manufacturer to another. Many entry level cars look like a Ford Focus. :scowl:

If you order the 6 speed manual tranny you get the all aluminum LS3 engine in the SS package. The Camaro is looking better and better.

By the way, it is my daily driver and it's damn comfy. It's fun to drive but doesn't beat you up. Having Sirius satellite radio and an aux input for the iPod makes it nice as well. AND the Mustang is at least 300 lbs lighter than either of those cars.

Anybody check the prices on used Mercedes SL cars?

I think the Challenger looks better, but a buddy of mine got an old used Viper with 30K miles on it for probably the same price these cars are going for. Sure, his maintenance is 5 times as expensive, but it also is an EFFLOAD more car.

as far as I am concerned both cars can be tossed in the trash. I used to be a die hard Chevy and Mopar guy. However, both companies are sellouts. They took money, screwed up royally in allowing the Govn't in, and still had to go bankrupt. I will buy foriegn. Sorry, but I don't care to support a company such as GM and Chrysler. They are history.

I'm not a car guy, but I like the looks of both of them. If they prove reasonably reliable, both companies could end up selling a bunch of these. However, living in one of Boston's western suburbs, I have to wait for the hybrid versions to come out.

My company supplies interior parts for the new Camaro. We make the door bolsters and Instrument panel inserts in different stock colors as well as some soon to be released sport colors. We mold them, paint them, assemble them, and then use a proprietary mix of American, Japanese flow coat technology to hard coat them to protect against scratchs, UV damage etc.

So I guess I'm partial to the Camaro as it helps feed my family.
