2013-14 NHL Regular Season Thread: Second Period

The Predators sent the only coach in franchise history down the road today, after 15 years on the job.

Pittsburgh pulled the most favorable match-up they could in the first round. If Bobrovsky gets hot, I could see Columbus pulling the upset though. It doesn't take much to break the mental toughness of Pittsburgh.

I watched the Anaheim game last night. Cool deal for Center Ice to show extended coverage after the game of Selanne saying goodbye to the fans on the ice. It was tough for me to watch as I have really liked watching him play. Maybe the Ducks can get on a run and send Selanne home with another SC.

Detroit-boston will be a good one, most folks around here were hoping for columbus as detroit has played the b's tough this year. But the scp are so unpredictable, columbus might advance and boston might get by detroit in 4 or 5 games. I need something to take my mind off the red sox' slow start.

If Fleury starts to tank, I think I'd rather see Zatkoff in there before Vokoun. He's earned it, and who knows how rusty Vokoun is. Definitely doesn't hurt to have him there in case something happens though. If he could get a ring with the Pens this year that would be awesome though. Excellent player and person who seemed to spend most of his career stuck on mediocre teams.

I'm really looking forward to the Stars Ducks series. Stars won the season series 2-1 but oddly enough Kari never saw a single minute of play against them. Seeing Robidas on the other bench will also be very Twilight Zone-y for me. Leht's go STARS!

First read that as the Star Wars series.

I honestly think the most interesting series will be the Boston Detroit series. The top team in the nhl against a team that barely squeaked into the playoffs in the final days of the playoff race. I forgot their season series but I think Detroit has the upper hand in wins and goals. Boston is big and tough, but Datsyuk and nyquist can deke circles around their burly defense.

Can't wait. Too bad their starts on Friday not Wednesday. I'm more excited for that than my Kings playing the Sharks.

I cold say the same about Luongo about being stuck in mediocre teams. He's one of the bet goaltenders but no goaltender can thrive with a crappy defense and an offense that can't score. Not Patrick Roy. Not hasek. Not even Quick.
