2013-14 NHL Regular Season Thread: Second Period

Melrose basically saying Detroit beating Pittsburgh is a done deal. I think he's nuts. It should be a good series but I don't see how he can flat out say that.

I agree, the Wings are playing their best hockey of the season right now. But this is a team that has to play hungry and out hustle the other guy to win. Having said that, they are as good as the Kings team that won a couple of years ago. But no series in hockey is a done deal, not with the parity in todays NHL.

The Wings are on the way to reaching an incredible milestone. They are one point away from making the playoffs for the 23rd year in a row! No other franchise in any of the big four North American sports is close. And the scary thing is the farm system is loaded, especially with defenseman. Ken Holland is the best GM in Sports today, and not just hockey.

Tough matchup for the Avs... They've played well against the 'Hawks this year though.

I would absolutely love a Wings-Kings cup finals. I love both teams but I'd always stick with my Kings. Time to wear my jersey with pride in Vancouver!

What about Babcock? No love for Mike on the night he passed Jack Adams for most coaching wins in Red Wing history? I remember when he coached out this way for the Spokane Chiefs in the early to mid 90's.

I think Lazarus.Bird mentioned it before, but it would be great to have Babcock coaching the Pens instead of Guy "let's make sure everyone loves each other and is happy" Smiley.

Oh I have plenty of love for Babcock. There is no question in my mind he deserves the Adams this year. He just hasn't been around for all 23 years in this streak, Holland has. This is a team that hasn't had a top fifteen draft pick for over two decades.

No Playoffs for the Caps this year, which could be a very good thing for the team in the long run. Time to clear out the front office and coaching staff, possibly training staff. Need to trade some folks and amnesty others to try and change the teams highly disfunctional culture.

Pretty good game between the Wings and Pens. I'd feel comfortable going into a 7 game series with them. All the Wings goals were pretty flukey/lucky. However, they definitely had some pretty scary puck possession at times. Tartar is dangerous every time he touches the puck. Damn he is fast.

I love how physical the Pens have been playing lately. 30 seconds into the game Stempniak crushed Kronwall in his own zone and that set the tone for the rest of the game.

I think Fleury wins save of the year for his stop on Alfredsson in the shootout.

Fleury played some of his best of the season in the third, OT, and shootout. That was a treat to watch. Gustavson came up big too.

Detroit ties it on a fluke goal, the Pens win on a fluke goal. I'll take it, and happy to oblige the Red Wings passage into the playoffs for season #23 in a row.

Fantastic saves by Fluery last night in the shootout. Detroit played a great game. It is weird though seeing them in a playoff position against the Pens and not the Cup series...

On a side note for Laz and Mike:
I will be at McGarveys on the 19th for sure. And Laz, we will have to get a photo toast for Mike. I'll even drink a Yuengling for the occasion!

Went to an AHL game last night since I'm down here in the Charlotte area on business. Charlotte Checkers beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-0. Great time. Took the shuttle form the hotel to the light rail (LYNX) station, that dropped me off right at the arena, got a ticket a few rows behind the goal, heckled the crap out of Mrazek the Griffin goalie, had great people sitting behind me, great in-game experience, dollar draft night, end of the third with a minute to go I got out of my seat and stood at the tunnel, horn sound and a couple minutes later I was on the train heading back. Nice experience down here in Charlotte. Nice area. Team was fighting hard for the final playoff spot in the West. Arena is pretty new if small (10,100).
