Tonight while watching the CAL/VAN game I learned that CBC does 'Hockey Night in Canada' in the Punjabi language on Saturday nights. How cool is that?

A co-worker here is from Central/Western PA...he watches all the Pens' games...even with the best record in the East, he goes on & on about the stuff you mentioned.
They rely too much on their superior talent...i.e. they do not work hard enough to win a tough series, they seem content with the pretty goals vs. the 'garbage variety', no grinders, etc.
He sees an early exit in this year's Playoffs.
I am not sure I believe him 100%...I'm thinking maybe he is 'reverse' jinxing them (or sumthin).
But your post seems to echo a lot of what he sez...
Just announced today that George Stroumboulopoulos, big media personality in Canada, will be the new host of Hockey Night in Canada. That is going to be awesome!

Hi everyone... Just found this thread and got sub'd to it.
I am an Avalanche fan and boy has this season been exciting. Nothing like going from 29th last season to top 10 this year.
I had season tickets from 95-96 through the 04-05 lockout, so I was lucky enough to see them win the cup in 96 and 01. Sakic giving the cup to Bourque to raise in 01 is one of my best hockey memories!
what a class act joe is.This year has been amazing to watch all of the youngsters playing the way they have. I guess Sakic got the 'right' number one pick with MacKinnon.... He actually broke Wayne's consecutive points streak for an 18 year old. And I love the way Roy pulls the goalie with 2 or 3 minutes left in the third.... Makes for a very exciting final few minutes...and it has actually worked a couple of times!

It's pretty tough for a D man to win the Calder. It's happened only 3 times in the last 23 years, with Tyler Myers in 09-10, Barrett Jackman in 02-03' and Bryan Berard in 96-97. Previous winners are Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Deni Potvin, Gary Suter, and Brian Leetch..... Some pretty big skates to fill!
I never though I would have to say the words "I'm glad the Dallas Stars traded for Tim Thomas" but damn I am super happy about it. Kari's out with a concussion and we have a Cup wining back up goalie to step in.

Very true, but couple Maatta's tremendous defensive performance with his recent offensive hot streak, and I think he'd have a legitimate chance if not for MacKinnon. That kind of insane point production as a rookie is going to win you the Calder no matter how good of a D man there is

Just thought I'd throw in on the pens talk earlier...... they seem to be suffering from "wings" syndrome - where the crush the regular season and the wheels fall off in the playoffs. As mentioned above, I think its due to relying on pretty goals and star plays, and foregoing the grind and slop. We will see I suppose.

Scary moment for Peverley last night. Glad to hear he's OK. Handled very well by both teams and the league, as well. I wonder what the chances are that the NFL would cancel a game if one of the players collapsed on the sideline and had a moment like that? Probably pretty slim. Say what you want about Bettman (I do all the time!), but I really appreciate the family style camaraderie you find in the NHL.
Aside from being pretty flat footed for the majority of the second period, pretty solid game by the Pens last night against the Caps. Not the best Halak performance I've seen. Crosby's goal was probably the hardest slap shot I've ever seen him take. Had to be 100+ mph for sure. Surprised it didn't light the net on fire and come out the back.
