Yeah, the best gaa & save % combined, among them. & he leads in sv% for those who've played more than 50 games.I've seen enough of Rask to know he is better than those other two.

Right. For instance, I want to know which goalie takes the most drinks during the game then compare that to the number of saves made in between drinks.

Taking into account water temperature and viscosity. Then there's the Gatorade variable........hmmmmm.....if my numbers here are right, Billy Smith was the best goalie in the NHL this season.
what would you addAdvanced stats would likely paint a clearer picture of things. Of those categories, most of them are more a reflection of the team as a whole and not necessarily the performance of the goaltender. I think statistics and how & what are tracked are going to evolve considerably in the near future.
what would you add
that's where # of games played comes into play at 50+ games the likelihood of not facing shots is none goalies w fewer than 40-some games played surely can't be considered although I don't know what the threshold is I'm going to guess it's 50 games for a G to be considered for the Vezina Hasek didn't win 6 of em from the bench he has Grant Fuhr to thank because he wouldnt have played if Fuhr didn't get hurt I bring Hasek up because he has 6 vezina trophies but also played on teams w good defense squads & more than once he'd get bored run on sentenceWell then, here is an interesting conversation. Goalie A has a shutout, and his team wins 2-0. How much of that is him making saves and how much of that is his team mates making plays so the shots are easier to block/save or even preventing the shot from getting to him, how much of it is the lack of skill from the opponent in that game? I'm sure there are other variables I am missing.

number of faceoffs won is huge just ask the kings they live by that but of course you cnat go by gaa alone or any stat alone you judge a players performance by compounded stats otherwise some kid who shuts out one period the whole year has a sky high sv% & gaa rating but only played 10min that season is not legitHere's something I found interesting: theres a guy here in town that posts on hf boards that is really good with this stuff. One of his "things" is to shoot down myths and to use the numbers to show how much your eyes lie to you about the ultimate fate of your team over time (complete with graphs...). I remember he showed how often losing face-offs directly result in goals against. And apparently, it has nowhere near the impact people seem to think.
Anyhoo, since the Jets came back, there has been a segment of fans who make excuses for Pavelecs lousy numbers, often blaming poor team defence. Well he dug into it by comparing how many shots from certain distances the Jets give up with what other teams give up (teams whose goaltenders have much better save %). It turns out the Jets are in the middle of the pack in shots from 10 feet out or less (I think it was 10 feet), yet Pavelecs numbers are much worse than virtually every other starting goalie's and are indicative of a back-up's performance level.
The moral is, there are ways to truly separate an individual's performance and disregard the effect his teammates have on it. Once people in the media become more comfortable with the advanced stats and understand how to use them in their analyses, you'll hear more & more about them & less about, say, a goalie's GAA as an individual stat, for example.
I'm biased, but I think Rask takes the Vezina. But I can't deny that the B's defensive system helps his stats. Just look at his backup's stats and they are not too shabby either. The only thing that worries me about Rask's game is he is not very good with the puck on his stick when he attemps to help clear it, but I can live with that for everything else he does.
Wings fans should not be too down - the last few years the B's have had trouble closing out series even when they were up 3-1.
Bringing Laughton up looks like. Getting Rinaldo off the ice seems a smart move right now. He's been a turnstile more than anything else so far and shows no signs of working out of it. He's just too hesitant.
