2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

The Eminence you showed was an Ampeg OEM speaker from 97. 86-032-01 is the number for OEM replacement. And you're correct about the CTS.
I borrowed a friend's PF500... was considering getting one as a backup to my V4B. Tried it out at rehearsal last night... sounded pretty good. However it doesn't come close to touching the V4B tonewise. I still might upgrade to a 610HLF to pair with my V4B, but for now it still sounds great with my Mesa PH212.
No but the thing does a great class D impersonation of a real Ampeg. I think it sounds very good and my only issue is it's larger than other class D heads and for me class D is as much about fitting easily in the pocket of a gig bag as anything else. If I'm compromising on that one I may as well bring a tube head.

36th week of 1971 CTS. The real deal. Date the cab late in 71 if all the other speakers have similar date codes. Find the newest speaker and add a couple of months to estimate when it was made.
The other speaker is an Eminence, code 67, built 1997, 49th week. This is what Ampeg uses in the SVT810 cabs. 86-032-01 is the ampeg part number. Replacements are available from some places that sell speakers. Here is one: Invalid Link Removed.
One concern, the two speakers in a chamber should be the same type. One affects the other so one that pusher more air can can overcursion in the other. On the other hand, if an eminence and a cts are in the same chamber and they seem to work well together, don't be concerned.
I keep a PF500 as a backup or to use when I have to stack my 112AV's vertically on tight stages. Obviously the V-4B is my preference, but at least the PF500 keeps it in the family.
He's selling it so I will probably buy it off him - its a lot closer to my "sound" than the GK MB500 I currently have. Its not a bad amp at all... just if I have the option I'd be reaching for tubes every time. I haven't really A/B'ed my V4B with anything in a while, so it was eye opening at how good it actually sounded.
Thank you I will see when I get it all apart but if it is as it seems, two replacements, I will likely pair them as the bottom pair. This one may take a little more thought and care then the previous 810e I did. I will start a new thread to not clog up the V4b thread.

Did you have a chance to try the cab with your V4B? I have to admit, when I get something in to work on, I tend to start by cleaning and doing a teardown.
I did not I was thinking to wait and be suprised when it was done but I will likely put the one speaker I pulled back in and just make sure everything is functional.
The backline rig for a local LA bar I play at is a PF500 paired with an Ampeg 610 and they sound great together IMO. When we play there I just use that instead of my own rig.
I've had a chance to use the my V-4B with the 212AV a few times now. I like the tone very well. Fortunately it doesn't sound a thing like my old SVT 112HE, which was kind of scooped and boxie sounding at the same time. I'm having to readjust the amp from when I was using my EBS 212 Proline. I find myself adding more bass and mids it seems with the 212AV. The EBS is bigger sounding, for a non-technical assessment, yet has fairly strong, but very pleasant mids, and I found myself trying to approximate that sound that I fell in love with.
This Sunday I was just tried to let the 212 be, and do it's own thing and not mimic the EBS. I got so used to loving the EBS that I was having a hard time letting that sound go, but I'm looking forward to tweaking the new rig to let it settle in my ears and head. I'm very happy with the 212 and I'm glad I have both cabs with offer two flavors of bass goodness.

Got a chance this weekend to test the '71 flatback with 6 of 8 CTS speakers before I take it apart and restore it. Unbelievable set up.
Man, that blows. I've been thinking about adding one of these and it's at the GC right up the road from me. But I just got the 'stop buying things' speech...
How will you know where the line really is if you don't cross it once in a while?
I have crossed it, erased it, crossed the new one, erased that one and crossed a few more. But during some recent deep cleaning in the garage, she found the receipt for the V-4B/2x112AV that I bought over a year ago and it opened some old wounds. Plus, we had lots of unexpected expenses this summer...
Now I just need a new, better hiding place. I mean stop buying.
