2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

IIRC, Ampeg offers only 90 day warranty on B-stock, returned, refurbed, etc items. Maybe there is an another category that falls under the more common 2 yr warranty.
Couldn't take it anymore and ordered today a V4b!!!
Mine came today!!! Can't wait to try it out this weekend

I bought one of those restocks two weeks ago. I cant remember now if i called or emailed them, But they came down well below 899 for me. I did make mention of this community and that i was a return customer. When it arrived it had everything you'd expect in the box. It looked all shiny and new and has thus far, performed flawlessly

I did not, Mostly because i am Canadian. I live 30 minutes away from an American border town and buy many things off MF or Talkbass. Not only does it save me on hefty brokerage fees and stupid shipping rates. A lot of the time people just do not ship international. So i gambled rather than dealing with the cross border warranty dance that it would hold out

Mine arrived yesterday. Gig this weekend in a low volume setting. Will be connecting it to a Berg HS 2x10 using a P bass with flats.
Looking forward to an after gig report. I have two HD210's I am thinking of mating one of these bad boys with. I've been a little more hesitant lately about pulling the trigger on every new amp that comes out and gets a lot of TB raves. Pretty happy with my TH500 for over a year now. But I really liked the two heavy for my bad back SVT II thru 2 HS210's I had for a while. Hoping to get close to that sound.
That's why I ordered mine.
After years of carrying a Svt Classic, I needed a break for my back... I had a Mesa big block for a few years and then got an Orange terror bass but kept on missing that sound, until I tried the V-4B in a store... That sound in half of the weight...

yep, mine arrived today as well. Gona use it gig this Friday against two pretty loud, tube amped gitards. That will tell the tale of should it stay or should it go. 
Will use both 212AV's and should have FOH support.
Set it up in my living room, second 212AV is in garage. Nice that every movement of the rocker switches or any of the knobs gives me a different tone. Heaviest rig I've owned in years. Will post pic of full rig at gig. Here's a taste:

Yeah, I getya jM, big weight difference. After unboxing in my garage, I grabbed V4B by top handle and cradled it under with my left arm. Didn't feel that heavy afterall as I brought in into house.
Moving the two 212AV's, with folding cart, shouldn't be too bad just lifting em into/out of back of SUV cargo area. Have 212AV covers on backorder. And Yep, I'll have to use wife's Honda Pilot this gig instead of my sportier car I whip around in. Oh well sacrifices must be made for "the tone".

I still haven't gotten a cover for my V4B. I really should. But I've done alright in that regard anyway. No significant damage to speak of.
Did some tube rolling in the V4B pre last night. I ended up with a grey long plate 1958 GE in V1, Tung sol 12ax7 in V2, and Gold Lion in V3. Much better than the stock JJ's IMO. The stock JJ's did not sound very open/airy when compared to the new tube complement. The GE in V1 made a huge difference to my ears/ likes. Can't wait to gig this head tomorrow night.
Interesting results, Joe. I haven't done much tube rolling but I did try a Japanese Raytheon made on old Mullard equipment in V1. I went back to the JJ because it sounded less like my 69 SVT loaded with NOS tubes with the Raytheon...a little treblier, which was cool in a way but I ended up preferring it to sound more like my 69. Have never tried those tubes, though. Probably will never try the GE with the prices of NOS 12ax7's being what they are now, but would like to try the TS and GL. Maybe next time I do an online order I'll pick up a couple.
