2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

The problem is when it comes time to change your tubes, the JJ's that you have today may not be the same as the ones that you will buy tomorrow. For better or worse they are always changing things.
You can stockpile the type that you have today or wait and hope that down the road you can get exactly the same or maybe a better version. Hopefully not one that doesn't measure up.
They've always done this. Take the GE6550A as an example, early models had welded plates, as a budget cutting measure they started crimping the pieces together. There are those that feel that the newer ones don't sound as good.
DOH! Well honestly, in the past few years, I've only seen the quality of JJ's go up, so I'm hoping that trend continues

NIIICE!!! Im torn about buyin that cab as i believe its narrower than my original V4B, but its quite tempting for the weight and rating of the beast.

Nice, hope you got a good deal. I just used my 112AV+212AV+V4B this past Friday. I don't think I noticed much, if any, volume loss to when I used 2x212AV's at same club few weeks ago. And I didn't have to run the amp wide open even though I was not thru FOH. But I sure had it dialed in nicely with my Skyline Joe Osborne 5 w/SS's. With just abit of digging in, I'd get the grind I wanted and back to smooth, fatness with a lighter touch. So much fun having that kind of tone control just with hands.
I had a gig next nite with a different band where I knew there would be heavy smokers. Smaller club where I realy wanted to try the V4B w/112AV cab, didn't want to expose my amp to all that ciggy smoke so soon. I just used my TC-E BG250-115 combo w/P5, worked great. So no smoke on my new amp but my old lungs took the hit, sheesh.
I remember when it was allowed to smoke in clubs here... Your hair, clothes, bass, amp, and cab would be at the end of the night stinking of cigarettes!!! I don't miss that...
Anyway, I got a pretty good deal. Can't wait to try it. Hopefully, I can manage with just one cab...

Even back when I smoked those gigs bugged the hell out of me......ugh!
Worse part is the drummer smokes on stage, I point my mini-fan his direction to divert it some. Yep, when I get home from those type gigs, wife makes me leave my gear, clothes, etc in garage and straight to the shower. I leave my SUV windows open while its parked in the garage, overnite is sometimes not enough to air it out.
I enjoy a good stogie now and then. But I've stopped smoking them at my gigs cause I know how annoying it can be to other patrons and fellow musicians. Only a few out-lying area bars are not under the indoor smoking ban. But those are the one's we regularly gig once a month. Not too bad at the bigger bars, those small rooms are killers.

I'll be gettin a 2nd 212AV in the next month or 2. I can hardly wait!!! This is by far the best rig will have ever owned or played through.
Yep, I bought this second 212AV too soon; most all indoor club gigs now with summer gone. But if I get more outdoor gigs next summer, may just order another 212AV by then. Sweetwater can get em to me like in 3-4 days once I order. My two most busy bands offer me PA support so I'll get away with a single 212AV for awhile. Thinking I might try my V4B thru either my 4 ohm, TB153 or NX2 212T at large club gig this coming Sat just for comparisons sake.
That 3015LF really puts out some huge lowend with my Crown XLS1500/pre bridged into the TB153. Wanna see what the V4B will do with it. May lose some of that tone I'm now liking with the 212AV; might be fun to find out.

Ok, now I am gassing for an av212!! I'm loving my V4B, but moving the SVT410he and B115 cabs around is getting old. I am longing for some great tone in a lighter weight package I will have to get to GC and demo them out and keep watching for a good deal on one.

@SR505b...well not sure how much lighter 212AV will be for you. At 66lbs, its the heaviest cab I now own. But its' a smallish, squatty cab so not hard to carry. I mostly need the 112AV on top to raise the amp up higher.
Still I just bought a foldaway, 4 wheel, Magna-cart. The nice 4" rubber tires fold away into the bottom and handle folds down on top so that it's only like 3"-4" wide. I can just slide it into any area in back of my SUV when done. Once at stage area, I transfer the 112AV/212AV+V4B onto cart again to move around the stage easily.
But for a 212 it packs a darn good wallop. And I only play 5 string P or J basses thru this rig, so I'm putting it thru its' paces. I've avoided going thru PA to see what it'll do. Very nice tight, thumpin tone in this rig for me. Hope you like it too. Let us know.

Hey ErnieD, that cart sounds like a great idea, thank you. I had been thinking about that type of option recently actually. What model did you get and what was the cost? How does it do on stairs?

In doing a little research, I re-read your post. I think the type you got would not do stairs at all, but work great on flat surfaces. I'm not sure what capacity I would use most. Have to think on that - but there seem to be a lot of options out there, which is nice.
Yeah, its more for flat surfaces really. I just had to use it over a gravel walkway last weekend and felt sorta unwieldy so I had to take it slow. On flat, smooth surfaces, even low cut grass, it moves along fine. I also have a two wheel cart that folds down pretty small. The handle telescopes down and the heavy steel load plate folds up and away. The two wheel cart works for my taller 212 cabs.
I like that the 4 wheel cart has a flat platform that holds the 212AV nicely in place on my first trip. I then cart the 112AV w/V4B on top on the second trip. Yeah, I'm now at about a 3-4 trip load in/out with cabs, bass, gearbag/stands. But I'm usually just feet away from club door and luckily not a lot of steps to deal with. And I arrive at gigs hour or so before not to be rushed. With time still for a pre-gig, Shiner Bock ya know.

Also, I put 4" rubber casters on my TB153 cab and it now floats like a feather with a slight shove. And the cab sits up higher now too. I may just put some on the 212AV to have it roll about easier. The hardest part is just the lift in/out of SUV and taller stages. But those rubber casters make em glide about so smoothly.
But the 212AV cab is still so new don't wanna screw casters into it just yet. The cart serves it's purpose for that for now. Those Mesa slide off casters I had on one of my Epi UL410's are very nice too. I just never had a need to slide them off.

Don't discount two 210AVs as a more portable and versatile option.Ok, now I am gassing for an av212!! I'm loving my V4B, but moving the SVT410he and B115 cabs around is getting old. I am longing for some great tone in a lighter weight package
Thanks. I'm concerned, from what I have read, that the 210 would not be enough to use alone at a gig.
Depends how loud you play but I have been pleasingly surprised by mine. Also depends whether you have FOH support also, I suppose. If I know I need to hit full power I do take another cab option but that twin 210AVs have never let me down yet, and so very easy to schlep.
The tone of the 210AVs is wonderful for its size.
