I will be gigging the NV215 with my Orange AD200 next weekend, although the V4B sounds great through it too - will run the V4B with it after that. Just want to remind myself what the Orange feels like. I played the V4B through the NV215 again a couple of days ago and it was very sweet. That Berg cab really does like tubes.

Got a cancelation gig tonight and I taking the SVT810 and the Super Bassman. Would've taken the V4 but I know I'll need to be DId so the SB300 gets the nod tonight. Thursday and possibly Fri & Sat will be the V4.
That's one thingi miss compared to the RI V4..... The inbuilt DI. As it'sa cancelation gig on short notice I won't go begging for a mic on my cab bit Thursday night I will. :thumbsup:

Interesting...I just bought a new Tung Sol 12ax7 to try in my SVT and V4B in V1. I had heard from folks on here that it and the JJ Gold Pin 12ax7 were the best of the new tubes and the closest to most NOS tubes. Turns out they were right, as my NOS tubes made my amps more trebly, just like the Tung Sol did. I put the stock JJ back in ;) Did not like it. Made it ice-picky. $15 down the drain. This is why I don't do much tube rolling. Oh well, at least it wasn't a $150 Mullard.

Since they are low noise versions of the 12AX7, they would be good to use in the first position. Noise from V1 gets amplified down the chain. This is the most critical point in the amp to keep tube noise down. Subsequent stages are at a signal level where tube noise doesn't contribute to the overall noise because it is relatively low.

But 12AX7 technology has improved in terms of noise so maybe you wouldn't notice a difference. But it never hurts to try them and see.

I used to tube roll, trouble was that when I occasionally returned an amp to stock to sell it I invariably found that I preferred the original tubes :rolleyes:. I think that psychologically I tended to favour something because it sounded different or maybe because it was "supposed" to sound better. Regardless, these days I have joined Jimmy's club and if it works for me then I don't try to fix it.
Still absolutely loving my V4B:hyper:

I've had this theory that NOS tubes work best in old amps made back then and new amps are designed around new tubes so they should be used in them instead. But my new Tung Sol experiment shot that theory to hell. Now I'm going to say that the type of tube they come with is what you should use ;) It's totally based on nothing, but when it comes time to replace any tubes in my HSVT and V4B, it will be with JJ's.
