2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Drummer recorded the blues jam last Wed nite. I ran the V4B DI into the board. Hoping he has results of that nite this coming Wed. That bassist with his G&L showed up again. I told him to leave settings as I had it. He sounded much cleaner, clearer out front this time. He even liked his tone better as well.

Then I noticed the drummer had the darn EQ sliders on the mix board in a total "smiley face". He was trying to clean the sound up from sound check before we started. I slid the sliders all flat and said, try that. He liked it. These are older, old school blues cats. And I aint no spring chickin. But I was glad to help. :thumbsup:

But again, the two 17" high cabs will sit up higher than a single 19" high 212. Plus this was a week apart and not even side by side comparison, so take this with a huge chunk of salt. Plus I was trying some slight new settings last nite, more gain-less Master, so not a good comparison for that reason too. Now, I did get some nice n nasty tube grind on a few Hendrix tunes when I dug in on the J5 w/tone knob wide open. And I used my P5 w/nylon flats the first week as well.

I had to make two trips with my folding cart to bring in one 112+V4B, then back to retrieve another 112+ a couple gear bags. I walked in with bass+stand as I arrived. But moving the two 112's from back of SUV was a lighter load out/in for me, just cost a couple extra trips. I may use a single 112AV at a gig next Sat, so it always helps to be able to bring one or two cabs as needed.

Just saw this since I was off the grid for two weeks on my band's yearly cruises. Sounds like they use the same speaker from that description. Have you checked that out yet?

Well seems you're up late and I'm up unusually early; still brewing coffee. So I'm not quite clear what your alluding to with your question above? As in "seems they use the same speaker"? Have I checked what out yet? I gotta down that first cup o' joe to clear the cobwebs I guess.

Der, OK, second cup coffee now. I understand now you're speaking of the drivers in the 112AV vs 212AV. I believe I read the AV's do have the same drivers in them.

Nice thing about the two 112AV's, I was able to use a single, 112AV in a tavern gig this past Sat. Very small area for band to setup. Wouldn't have wanted to use that 212AV into that small area. So there's that for the two 112AV's advantage. And just a much easier schlep winding thru all those tables to reach setup area.

Sure looking forward to summer, outdoor gigs to use all 4x12's w/V4B.

At 45 pounds, even an old guy like me could do a one-hand schlep of a 112AV on a tavern or coffeehouse gig.

And surprisingly, the 112AV feels even lighter than my (aprox 34lb) TC-E BG250 combo to one hand carry. It feels strange moving the 112AV with single handle as I'm used to carrying cabs with a handle on each side, like 210's I've owned. But when just one-handing the 112AV and let it hang at my side as I walked thru those tables, it felt like it weighed much less. I'm lazy so I mostly use my cart to move any of my cabs. Why schlep when I can easily roll em in. But winding thru those tables, just luggin the cab by hand was easiest.

Amps that are easy to dial in are such a pleasure. They sound good at just about any setting. I like TI flats as well. They really help make my basses sound better.

If you want clean, try the amp with the master on full and use the gain to set the level.
